Thus, the
building committee was determined to restore and prominently displaying the windows
in the new building.
As you enter the Sanctuary from the Narthex, you will be delighted by the welcoming feel of soft, natural light that fills the auditorium.
The light comes in from the skylight over the upsweeping chancel area and the two
floor-to-ceiling art glass windows, on the east and south sides of the sanctuary.
More art glass windows are displayed in the window-wall between the auditorium and
the Narthex.
(These windows may be opened to expand the worship space.)
More windows are backlighted along the wall adjoining the Friendship Hall next door
to the Narthex.
(See more art glass window pictures on our other pages.)
In the past there was an effort to protect the windows from the weather with plexiglass that fogged up and faded. Many of the smaller windows were on the second level or behind partitions from subsequent remodeling efforts.
Now, all the windows are beautifully and fully displayed for
all to see.
Once the sanctuary was finished, word spread about the windows. Many local residents
took advantage of opportunities to visit our sanctuary due to many open house activities
and concerts, notably the month long October music festival.
The "church of the windows" must be seen during a Sunday worship and an evening concert
to be fully appreaciated. For not only are the windows beautiful, the auditorium
has excellent accoustic qualities. Performers ask us if they may return to perform
again.
