October is the Month of the Rosary: During the month of October, we will pray the rosary before all weekend Masses. We invite you to come 20 minutes early to honor Mary by praying the rosary together. As you know, Mary is the patroness of our country. In these unsettling times for our nation, all the more we need the help of Mary's prayers. Remember at Fatima, part of Mary's message was an invitation to offer the rosary for world peace. Perhaps in this month dedicated to rosary, we might use this ancient prayer of the Church to remember with greater appreciation, the events ("mysteries") of the life of Jesus, which brought about our salvation, and to offer our own personal petitions to the Blessed Mother, asking the help of her prayers for us. The rosary is not only a wonderful personal prayer, but a wonderful family prayer as well! Maybe while you are driving, turn off the radio and pray the rosary. Perhaps, give up a half-hour sitcom and pray the rosary as a family? Invite the children to lead a decade of the prayer, ask them what it is they want to pray about and offer to the Lord and the Blessed Mother. Parents may be surprised at what is on the hearts of their children at this time. If anyone is in need of a rosary, there are plenty in the back of Burlington church for the taking. If anyone from the other parishes needs a rosary, let Fr. Mike know. We will get one for you. We also have little pamphlets available to guide us through the rosary.

Stewardship Thought: The sin of the rich man in today's Gospel was not that he was rich, but that he failed to share his wealth with the beggar at his gate. He knew Lazarus, perhaps walked by him every time he came in or out, bud did nothing to relieve his suffering. Is there a Lazarus in my life? What am I doing to help?

Let us ask the Blessed Mother's intercession for our country and for world peace:

The Memorare: Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
