Franklin Sea, (LA) Feb 28th 1864
(p1) Dear wife. I take this chance to send you a few lines to
let you know that I am well and hope that you and the children
are the same. I got your letter of the 4th and was happy to hear
from you. I hope you will not send the doctors letter for it will
be of no use for we are soon to leave here for the road againe.
We have got to face the enemy again. We have a long march before
us. You seem to think that I have as good a chance
(p2) as others to send my likeness but others have been in
the hospital when they were sick while I had to do duty in the
regiment but I send it to you now it is the best they can take
here. We have not been paid yet there id four months due now. We
may be paid before we move but cant tell sure. I suppose you need
money by this time. I am glad that the children are learning
well. You must send Willie to school
if he can speak plain. Give my love to all my friends give my
love to Samuel and Mrs Mudget and the family give my
(p3) love to John and the
family. I hope the time is not far distant when I shall see you
all I hope that the regiment will get a furlough in the fall or
that the war will be over which God grant. The weather is very
warm here now. I dont have the shakes so mutch as I did and now
my dear children how I long to see you all. You must be good to
mama and still pray to God for papa for he will sne papa home
safe. bye and bye abd dear wife you must be as contented and
happy as you can until
(p4) the time comes when we shall meet again which is I trust
not far distant. Trust in God and he will not forsake. I got a
letter from Samuel dated the 10th
Feb. Write as soon as you get this. The boys are all well. Let me
know if you get the relief regular. good bye and God Bless you
