(page1) dear wife I now take time to write you a few lines to
inform you of my sfe arrival here. we had a hard line on the
march. we encamped near the Chain Bridge in a pleasant place. I
hope you and the children are all well. are stopped but a short
time in Washington. we went to Pacific seawalk. stopped but
(page2) two nights and then have start for this place. we
expect to move from here soon. give my love to all friends. I
have not had time to find John or
the James yet but shall look for
them soon. kiss all the children for me. Tell Miss Halliday that Frank
sends his love to all. he has been promoted to Colonell Badely(?). write soon as you get
this. give my love to Samuels folks. I will write to them soon as
possible. all the boys send their love to you Your affectionate

march 15 miles to Alexandria, where we are now. ____ how long we
