There are 2 boys ages 5-10 and 10-15 plus a female age 50-60 on the census with them, they do not appear on the 1840 census. 1832 buys 9.75a in Perry Co, TN #1965 Bk3a p137. 1837 tax list and 1840 census for Tishomingo Co, MS w 11210001-0101001. 1850 census back in McNairy Co, TN ages 63/56 and 4 children at home.. 1854 tax list for Cave Twp, Franklin Co, IL. 01 Mar 1855 buys land in Cave Twp, Franklin Co, IL 40a Sec 31 and in 03 Jan 1854 Corinth Twp, Wmson Co, IL 40a Sec 5. 1860 census Cave Twp, Franklin Co, IL ages 72/67 w no children at home. I have not found Elizabeth on the 1870 census.
Henry T Bain was a farmer. 1860 census in Benton Co, TN ages 29/23 w 5 children at home.. During the Civil War, he was a Pvt in Co B 7th TN Cav. Henry was captured at Trenton and sent to Camp Chase, where he was traded for Southern POW's. He was then captured again at Union City and sent to Andersonville Prison. From there we was transferred to Millen Prison, where he died in the fall of 1864. He was originally buried at the prison but was later moved to the National Cem in Beufort Co, SC, grave #2059. According to military papers, Henry was 5' 11" tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. After the war, his wife Mary and their children come to Jackson Co, IL, probably with several members of her husbands family. Mary is on the 1870 Jackson Co, IL census as a widow age 35 w 5 children. She remarried to George S Pomeroy. George was a teacher and a minister. During the Civil War, George was a Pvt in Co I 117th IL Inf. 1880 census they are in Makanda Twp, Jackson Co, IL ages 50/45 w 1 child and 1 from her 1st marriage.. I have not found them on the 1900 census. George's death notice is on the 03 Mar 1904 SI Hearld.

The family left VA and is on the 1820 census for Simpson Co, KY w 00001-3001. 1830 census for what was then Humphrey Co, TN w 2000001-111001, there is 1 male under 5 unaccounted for.. 1836 tax list for Benton Co, TN dist #5. .I have not found them on the 1840 census. 1846 Mary receives 164.5a in Benton Co, TN Bk 9a p310. Mary is a widow on the 1850 census in Benton Co, TN age 85 w 5 children at home.

According to Harriet's death cert she was living in the Village of Makanda when she died and had been there for 1 year and 6 months.

On 24 Feb 1777 buys land on Mallard Creek. In Apr 1777 George Jr and Sr witness a will for neighbor John Taylor. In 1777, George buys sheep at an estate sale for a Michael Baker whose wife was named Margaret. 1778 tax list of Capt Hugh Parks with 320a. 22 Jul 1793 buys 185a on Sugar Creek from John Taylor adj to David Haynes with other Baker land to the south. 16 Jun 1795 buys more land near Smith and Taylor. 1807 tax list of J Haynes with 409a. All census in Mecklenburg Co, NC. 1790 w 1-5-4, there are 2 female unaccounted for. 1800 census (listed as Wm Baker) w 2121-1111, 5 slaves. There are still 2 girls not accounted for on this census poss unknown daughters. 1810 census w 11201-12001, 3 slaves $200. The 2 unknown girls are gone. 1820 census w 01-00002 Rachel is a widow, it is thought the other female is her mother.

Sarah leaves IN and moves to IL, settleing in Marshall Co. I have never found her in the 1860 or 1870 census.

Abraham buys quite a bit of land in Makanda Twp, Jackson Co, IL: 1853-Sec 23, 1854-Sec 23, 1855-Sec 23, 1856-Sec 25, 1856-Sec 23, 1865--Sec 24, 1873-Sec 12 and 1886-Sec 14. He also buys 40a in T9-1, Wmson Co, IL Sec 32. Abraham's second wife was first married to a Rushing. I do not know what happened to her after Abraham died.

I have not found Joseph on the 1820 census. 1830 in Jackson Co, AL w 012001-1001, 1 slave. There is one male unaccounted for ages 5-10 not on 1835 census. 1835 IL state census Union Co w 02001-3001, one girl under 10 unaccounted for not on 1840 census. 1840 census Union Co, IL w 1001101-1110001, 1850 census Jackson Co, IL ages 51/53 w 4 children. 17 Dec 1850 files a law suit against the government for money owed him from his service in the War of 1812. John A Logan is his attorney. 24 Jan 1851 files for a land bounty. After he died on 17 Apr 1855, son Abraham, is made guardian of children, Margaret and Jacob. Abe also files for the land bounty for Jacob #19869.

Pleasant M Finney was a farmer and pound master for Herrin. On 23 Oct 1874, PM along with 22 others shot into the home of Henry Carter and tried to force him to leave the county for teaching black children. 13 Jul 1876, arrested for attempted murder of his neighbor, Thomas Riddle. Seems they got into an arguement over a property line and PM clubbed Thomas, breaking his arm, leaving him by the side of the road.1880 census in Wmson Co, IL ages 27/26 w 3 children. 1900 census in Lake Creek Twp, Wmson Co, IL ages 48/46 w 8 children.. Not found on the 1910 or 1920 census.

During the Civil War, PL was a Pvt in Co I 56th IL Inf --military and pension records. PL died during the war and his widow remarried to Isaac Vancil.. Mary is on the 1868 tax list for T8-4 in Sec 4 & 9. On the 1870 census, they are in Blairsville Twp, Wmson Co, IL ages 78/49 w 3 children from her 1st marriage. On 22 Apr 1872, Mary's new husband is hung by the KKK near his home. Mary is a witness to the murder. 1880 census Corinth Twp, Wmson Co, IL, Mary is a wd age 57 living alone. In Feb 1883, Mary petitions to sell her farm, it is sold in 1884.

On 27 Sep 1837, PR buys 40a in Sec 02 of Lake Creek Twp in Wmson Co, IL. 1840 census in Wmson Co, IL w 001001001-00110001, the female age 15-20 is a daughter, the other girl and other 2 males I am not sure who they are but they are not on the 1850 census. 1850 census Wmson Co, IL, PR has remarried ages 73/43 w her 4 children.

James Gallaghaer was a chauffer. This family was catholic. He had come to America on 26 May 1898 sailing from Queenstown, Ireland to NYC on the ship "Teutonic", he was 19. Margaret came in 1903 but I have not found out the ship. In 1906 they lived at 475 Amsterdam Ave. 23 Dec 1935 in NYC Margaret became a citizen. James became a citizen on 16 Mar 1936. They were living at 2091 Asterdam Ave. In 1952 the lived at 585 W 169th St. After James died, Margaret went to live with her son Thomas.
William Gallagher was a shoemaker. This family was catholic. On son James' birth cert is has the surname as Gallagher and Galloher. His wife Margaret's is listed as Gilson and Gilsenan. It seems Margaret and at least one son came to the US before 1898. William came on 26 May 1898 sailing from Queenstown, Ireland to NYC on the ship "Tuetonic" age 44, along with his children James & Margaret.

Laban Hill was a waiter, janitor and stage driver in NYC. He came from Maine about 1848 and lived at #6 Lues and #5 Ann St in NYC. 14 Mar 1848, his future wife, Elizabeth obtained a letter of recommendation from her employer in Co Cavan, Ireland. She came to the US on 06 May 1949 in the "Fingal". Once here she went to New Haven, Ct to work where she is found on the 1850 census age 25 as a maid. Laban was in NYC in 1850 age 28 working as a hotel waiter. In 1862, they lived at 285 W 32nd St. During the Civil War, Laban was a Cpl in Co B 162nd NY Inf. We have letters from Laban while he was in the war and his military and pension records. (see family records section for transcriptions of letters). 1869 directory for NYC, Elizabeth is living at 208 E Elm. In 1890, she is at 444 w 48th St were she was listed as a wash woman.

William Jones. I do not know anything about Wm other than he was in Vigo Co, IN in 1871 when his daughter was born. From their daughters deat cert, it has Wm's wife with the maiden name of Harrington and born in England. I have not found a marriage in IN for Wm and this woman. On the 1850 census in Vigo Co, IN there is a Wm Jones age 36 and a Harrington family with a daughter named Mary age 21 born in England. I don't know if this the her or not. On the 1880 census their daughter Luella is living with Asa Blankenship in Crainville, IL. According to my grandmother, Wm's wife died when they were coming to IL in a wagon accident. I have learned there was another daughter Sadie whi winds up in Mt Carmel, IL. In the Rose Hill Cem in Mt Carmel there is a Wm and Mary Jones buried but I do not know if they are the right ones.
Roy Kelley was a coal miner and a roofer. Roy was first married to a woman in DuQuoin. On the 1920 census, Roy is listed as a wd age 34 and is living with his mother in Crainville, IL. His 8 y/o son, Leslie, is not with him. He is supposed to have married Alice Carmciahel and been the father of her first 2 children. But on the 1920 census, Alice is 18 living at home, her son, Paul who would have been 2 is not in the family either. In the 1922 directory Roy is living alone in Cambria. He supposedly in 1923 but I never found a death cert for him. In 1924 Alice, her children along with her parents move to East St Louis. At some point she married a man named West, but by 1930 she was using her maiden name again. Some time during the early 1940's she married Frederick Leroy Kline. In 1949 they are living at 922 St Clair Str in E St Louis. Later they moved to Chicago.

Mary remarried in 1893 and they lived in Crainville. 1900 census ages 57/48 w 3 children, 1910 census ages 68/51 w 3 children and 2 grandchildren at home, has she had 7 children and 5 were living. I only know of 4. 1920 census, Mary is a wd age 69, 1 son and 2 grandchildren are with her.

On 20 Sep 1810, his children receive slaves from Jacob VanZandt, their grandfather. 12 Nov 1811, he sold 200a on Bean Creek to Jesse Bean. 09 Jan 1818, in Franklin Co, TN, he bought land on Bradley Creek from Wm Pol of NC. 1820 Franklin Co, TN census w 20101-2101. His wife, Elizabeth had rec land from her father, Jacob VanZandt where he died. This land was sold by her children on 28 Feb 1829 after she died. 26 Apr 1837, he bought land on Bank Camp Fork on Duck River.

In 1747, he was in the Colonial Troops under Capt Cobins. 1770 in the Tyron Co, NC militia and During the Rev War he was a Capt of the militia from Tyron Co, NC in 1775. However in 1787, he appears on a tax list w 7 whites and 10 slaves in Hampshire Co, VA. By the 1790 census he is in Rutherford Co, NC again w 1-2-4. In 1792, he moved on the Buncombe Co, NC. Between 1792-1806, he buys land 15 times, he has 4345a on Mud Creek, (1495a of which he bought from his sons Simon and James), 1200a on Green River and 300a on Devil's Fork. 1800 census Buncombe Co, NC in Ashville w 00101-00001 & 5 slaves. It has been thought that Jon died before 1814, as his wife is provided for in a will of her son in law George Baker. Mary is also thought to be the other older woman living with Rachel Baker (dau) in 1820 census. However according to a pension list for Meck Co, NC in 31 Aug 1833, Jon is living in the county is age 88.

In 1836, they moved to Edwardsville, Madison Co, IL where he owned a furniture store. After Wm died, Maragret remarried to Thomas Eaton. Remain with Ben on the 1880 census a wd age 82.

Thomas George Pomeroy was a farmer. He lived 2 miles East of Roxbury, PA. His first wife and 2 children were murdered in an Indian raid on their home near North Mountian in PA. 17 Dec 1767, he bought 117a in Franklin Co, PA. 14 Oct 1775, he bought another 176a. During the Rev War, he was a Pvt in the PA Militia under Capt McLay & Miller. 1790 census Franklin Co, PA w 3-4-4.
George Holmes Pomeroy was a farmer. According to one story, George was taken for service in the English Royal Navy, but he got the sailors drunk and escaped to the US. He was in the US about 1729. He is on the tax lists for Letterkenny Twp, Franklin Co, PA for the years, 1751, 1760 and 1770.

Garret VanZandt. He is on the 1757, 1760 and 1762 tax lists for Middletown, Bucks Co, PA. 1778 tax list for Southampton, Bucks Co, PA. In 1782 he is on a tax list in Rutherford Co, NC. In 1782 he received a land grant in Washington Co, TN for 200a on Limestone Creek. This grant was probably for military service, he never went to TN but may have given it to his son.
