Alice Joe Tinsman, 61, of Cushing, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, in her home. Services will be Monday at 9 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cushing. The Rev. Verlyn Snell will perform the service. The services are under the direction of Palmer Funeral Home.
She was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Stafford, Kan., to Earl H. and Glenora (Durrett) Ackley. She married Robert Tinsman on June 19, 1965 at Ft. George G. Meade in Maryland.
She received her early education in Ada. She attended two years of high school in Guthrie and finished her high school in Cushing; graduating with the class of 1957. She attended Oklahoma University and continued her education at Central State University in Edmond. She graduated in 1961 with a bachelor’s in education.
She traveled with her husband, who was an army officer, and lived in 16 states and two foreign countries.
They moved to Cushing in 1996.
She worked for the Red Cross. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cushing and was a volunteer in every community she ever lived in. While in Cushing, she helped with the hospital auxiliary and the Meals on Wheels Program.
She is predeceased by her father, Earl Ackley.
She is survived by her husband of the home; one daughter, Laura A. Tinsman, Cushing; her mother, Susie Ackley, Cushing; and one brother, Steven Ackley, San Francisco, Calif.
The Cushing Hospital Auxiliary will meet at the church at 8:30 a.m. to be seated as a group.
