NEW HOLLAND- Clyde E Martindale, 76 of New Holland died at noon Wednesday in University Hospital Columbus, where he had been a patient for four days. He had been Ill a week.
The son of Alfred and Sarah Ackley Martindale, he was born on 25 July 1891 in Vinton County. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and moved to New Holland in 1928.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ottie Dozer, three sons, John of Morristown, Tenn, Howard of National City, Calif, and Clyde Jr. of Washington C. H., six daughters, Mrs Carl Penwell, Mrs Lyle Sowers, and Mrs Ed Seay all of Washington C. H. and Mrs Russell Freeman , Mrs Ralph Smith Jr. and Mrs Gerald Thacker, all of New Holland, a sister Mrs Nellie Campbell of Columbus, and three brothers, Harold of Columbus, Warren of Chillicothe and Elmer of Mt. Sterling, 37 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home with the Rev Arthur George officiating. Burial will be in the New Holland cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 pm Friday

Temple Street, Washington C.H., died on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 at 10:35 a.m., at the Court House Manor Nursing Home where she had been a resident since March 29, 2006. She had been in failing health the past eight years. Mrs. Sowders was born on March 28, 1921, at Ray in Vinton Co., Ohio to Clyde E. and Ottie Dozer Martindale. She lived most of her life in New Holland and Washington C.H. She had been a cook at the Case Convalescent Center for 22 years before her retirement in 1994. She had formerly been a restaurant cook. Mrs. Sowders attended the Heritage Memorial Church of Christ in Christian Union and was a member of the Fayette Co. Commission on Aging. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle E. Sowders, Sr., on May 20, 1973; by a granddaughter, Sheila K. Knisley; a great grandson, four brothers, Clyde, Elba, John and Howard Martindale and four sisters, Bernice Smith, Ova Penwell, Opal Freeman and Florence Self. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Emma and Richard Knisley of 265 Zimmerman Road-SW, Greenfield; three sons, Lyle E. Sowders, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of 806 Sycamore, John J. Sowders and his wife, Diana, of 389 Staunton-Jasper Road-SW and Clyde Sowders of 430 Sixth Street; 8 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren and step great grandchildren and two sisters, Maude Thacker of Rockingham, N.C., and Ann Seay of Washington C.H. The funeral will be on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at 10 a.m., in the Youth Chapel at Heritage Memorial Church of Christ in Christian Union, with the Rev. John Caskey, pastor at the Greenfield Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the Youth Chapel at the Heritage Memorial Church from 4-8 p.m. on Friday.
