He was born Monday, April 22, 1935, in Calvin, a son of the late John Woods and Janie Ackley Woods. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; one brother; and daughter, Tammie Woods.
He was a member of the Advent Christian faith, a retired maintenance worker for the Webster County Board of Education and a Webster County resident since 1961.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Woods of Webster Springs; daughter, Loretta Line of Sylvester, Ga.; sons, James Woods Jr. of Florida, Robert Woods of Indiana, Carlos Woods, Joey Woods and Josh Woods, all of Webster Springs; 11 grandchildren of Webster Springs; sisters, Delsie Carpenter of Webster Springs, Armenthia Mohle of California, Shelta Marie Holman of Nebraska and Ruth Viands of Martinsburg; and half-brother, Brad Propps of Summersville.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with the Rev. Darius Arnold of Duck. Burial will be in Woods Cemetery, Kingfisher Road, Webster Springs.
