Dead Body of "Calt" Ackley Found
The badly decomposed body of "Calt" Ackley 58 years old was found near
Hiramsburg, Sunday by a passerby. The condition of the body indicated that he
had been dead for a week or ten days. Sheriff Moore, acting in the capacity of
coroner, was summoned and went to the scene. An investigation of the body revealed
a crushed skull, broken shoulder and other bruises. He was lying at the foot
of a cliff of rocks some 25 feet high and must have fallen over the same producing
the injuries from which he died. Mr. Ackley has been known to be mentally deranged
for some time. He had gone away from home some two weeks ago and persistent search
failed to locate him. The supposition is that he wondered to this place, lay
down to sleep or fell over the rocks some way producing death. Undertaker Dye,
of Belle Valley, was summoned and took charge of the body. Deceased wandered
away from home about three years ago and was gone several days but finally came
to himself down in Kentucky and returned home voluntarily. He is well known here
and was a quiet, peacable citizen. He is a brother of Luther Ackley of Sharon.
He leaves a family of children surviving at Lowell, O.
He appeared in the census 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 & 1920 in Ohio.

the Calvin W. Ackley, aged fifty eight years, residing near Lowell,
demented at time for years past, disappeared from his home a week or two ago
and no trace of his whereabouts could be ascertained by his friends. Diligent
search was made for him without result. Last Sunday afternoon while Wayne Stout
and wife were roaming the country between Hiramsburg and Ava in search of wild
flowers they were horrified upon finding the dead body of a man who had fallen
over a ledge of rocks about thirty feet in height. The body was in a badly decomposed
state and after the arrival of Sheriff Charles Moore and others the body was
identified as being that of Ackley. The body was taken in charge by an undertaker
and prepared for burial and the next day was taken to the home of the deceased
for burial. He is survived by his wife and two children. Some years ago he left
his home in a demented condition and coming to his mind found himself to be somewhere
in Kentucky.
