on 4 May 1960 in Manistique, Schoolcraft , Michigan.4 Eliza Ann ACKLEY and Oscar Delaney SHEPPARD were married
on 6 Jan 1883 in Germfask, Schoolcraft , Michigan.2,4,110,111,112,113,114 Oscar Delaney SHEPPARD1 (son of Timothy Titus SHEPPARD and
Margaret Ann Lovina WOOD) was born on 9 Aug 1857 in Norwich, Oxford Co., Ontario,
Canada.4 He died on 13 May
1941 in Manistique, Schoolcraft , Michigan.4

OSCAR SHEPPARD
Filed for his claim June 25, 1881 at Mackinac Island. The description T 44 N.,
R 13W., Sec 14, north 1/2 of NW 1/4, SE 1/4 of NW 114. NE 1/4 of SW 1/4. He paid
$14.50 for the homestead, which was 10 be tax free for 7 years, for at that time
it would be proved up for him to be the sole owner. This he did and he lived
on
the place until November 1, 1939 when he moved to Manistique where he died May
13 1942.
He was born in Norwich,Canada August 9, 1856 (being born in Canada be told me
was why he never ran for president).
His parents were Timothy Sheppard, a civil war veteran and aMargaret Ann Lavina
Wood also from Norwich Canada.
He was a man of many skills as were a lot of the oldtimers, but I guess you had
to be in order to exist. His love of horses helped him in his livelihood, for
he raised them and at one time had as many as 20 on his farm.
At age 8 months lie moved from Canada to this country with his parents.
With the adventuresome spirit of a young man of 25 with his. two brothers-in-law
John Ackley and Hezekiahi Knaggs and two sisters Lilessia and Milicent he came
north, took up a homestead, built a 16' x 20' log house.
Two of his four forties he cleared the other two he left for firewood and lumbering.
He then took himself a wife. He married Eliza Ackley. the oldest daughter and
child of Ezekiel Ackley.
The wedding took place at Eliza's home June 6, 1883. John Ackley performed the
wedding ceremony, for he was a Justice of Peace.
The matron of honor was a Mary McKarrow and the groomsman was Oscar's brother-in-law
Hezekiah Knaggs. This marriage lasted for 60 years.
She died in May 1960 n Manistique. They had a family of 12 children, Cora March
30, 1884. Baby daughter Jan 16,1886 died at 6 weeks, Harry Mar 5,1888, Albert
and Delbert March 19, 1890. Charles Jun 22, 1892, Frank Feb.28, 1896, Lawrence
Sept. 4, 1898, Marion May 22, 1900. Roy July 16, 1902, Marjorie April 6, 1904,
Gertrude June 2, 1911. The last three are still living. Roy in Florida, Marjorie
In Gould City. Gertrude in Westland, Michigan.
