Gowin, 74, of Springfield died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at his home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Taylorville, the son of Carroll and Ruth Morris Gowin. He married Violet Ackley Robinson.
Mr. Gowin was a member of VFW Post 1881 in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Survivors: wife, Violet; son, James Gowin Jr. of Phoenix; stepson, Michael (wife, Margaret) Robinson; daughter, Pamela VanRaden of Colorado; three stepdaughters, Patty (husband, Bill) Bolt and Becky Robinson, both of Springfield, and Brenda Robinson (fiance, Mike Patton); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Natalie (husband, Bill) Payne of Riverton; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services: 11 a.m. Friday, Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Ellinger-Kunz Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
He died Monday, Jan. 23 in Springfield, Sangamon , Illinois.⁹³
