remember". When he enlists in the military at Enfield, IL at age 26, it
indicates he was five foot eight inches, black hair and black eyes, with
a dark complexion. He was a farmer.

Martha, the daughter of John and Mary Hedges, was born November 22, 1842, near
Louisville, Kentucky. She was married in 1861 to Henry Stroughmatt, who fought
and died during the Civil War, leaving her one daughter, Mrs. Mary Harshman of
Kansas City, Mo. She was married again to Ephriam Ackley. To this union was
born nine children, three boys and six girls, six of whom survive her. William
Ackley of Dexter, Mo., Jewel Ackley of White County, Ill., Virgil Ackley of Ina,
Ill., Mrs. Ann Ellison of Gallatin County, Ill., Mrs. Maggie Frasure of Ina and
Mrs. Ophelia Williams of Christopher, Ill. The deceased are Mrs. Easter Wilson,
Mrs. Francis Harper and Juliana Ackley.
She professed faith in Christ at the age of sixteen years and united with the
Walnut Grove Baptist Church near Norris City, Ill., of which body she was a member
for many years. She was a member of the Ina Baptist Church at the time of her
death, which sad event occurred at her home in Ina February 14, 1917. She had
been afflicted for a number of tears, but ????? all, she was very patient and
cheerful and often expressed her resignation to her Master, she was ready to
go at His call. She was a kind and indulgent mother and will be greatly missed
by her husband and children who now mourn her departure.
She leaves to mourn her death a husband, seven children, a number of grand
children and great grand children, two brothers W. C. Hedges of Ina and G. J.
Hedges of Huntington Ark., and one sister, Mrs. Emaline Acord of Ina, Ill., together
with a host of relatives and friends.
We shall greatly miss her, but our loss is gain to her, for she died in the
Lord.
The funeral services were conducted by Fulton Hedges at the Ina Baptist Church
Feb 15, (Scriptural text: ll Peter 1-14) after which the body was laid to rest
in the Kirk cemetery to await the resurrection. Pvt Ephriam Q ACKLEY and Martha
