8. William James CONKLIN III was born on 6 Aug 1837 in Monroe , Ohio.⁶ He died on 20 Aug 1901 in Gayville, Clay , South Dakota.⁶ William James Conklin Jr, when about 10 years of age, traveled with his parents from the State of Ohio into Jackson County in Iowa. In Sept 1850, they were living in Otter Creek Township of Jackson County. William's father was born about 1808 in New York State. His father was laid to rest in 1857. in Iowa. William's Mother Ester was born about 1812 in New York State, Ester was laid to rest in Iowa. William's oldest Brother Aminadab was born in 1834 in Marion County Ohio.
William James (Jr) married Mariah in 1857 in Farmers Creek Township in Jackson County Iowa. They settled in or near the town of Iron Hills just south of Farmers Creek Township. It is now believed that their son Russell was laid to rest at age 15 in the Wilson Cemetery near Iron Hills, In about 1883, the Conklins moved into Jones County which is just West of Jackson County. Four years later, they moved to Gayville in South Dakota in 1887. In 1888, they traveled to a farm near Stockville, which is in Frontier County Nebraska. However they returned to Gayville in 1894. William passed away in Gayville in 1901. Mariah, in 1903, moved the family to Garrison in North Dakota. This was her home until her death in 1930.
W. J. Conklin died at Gayville, South Dakota, August 21. Mr. Conklin was a resident of North Star precinct, moving to South Dakota in 1894. Mrs. E. N. Hinton is a daughter of Mr. Conklin's. He has been ailing for some time.

Wm. Conklin died at his home four miles southwest of Gayville on Tuesday, August 20 aged 64 years and 14 days. For many years Mr. Conklin has lived in this community. Though he has suffered much During the past six months the end came without a struggle. He was a man of God and death had no terror for him. "Blessed are the dead that died in the Lord." The funeral was held at the home on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Hudson W. Smith, of Gayville who spoke briefly from the words found in St. John 14, 1-3. A large number of friends attended the last sad rites. The remains were interred in the Mission Hill cemetery where they await the glad resurrection morning

Circa 1883, the Conklins moved into Jones Co. just west of Jackson Co. IA.
In 1887, they moved to Gayville, SD. In 1888 they traveled to a farm near Stockville, Frontier Co. NE. In 1894, they returned to Gayville where William passed away in 1901. In 1903, Mariah moved the family to Garrison, ND. This was to be home until her death in 1930.
