Ave. NE, died Tuesday in St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. Services:
1 p.m. Friday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park
Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home
and after noon Friday at the chapel. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Bys
of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Phyllis Kach of Cresco; and a brother, Arnold Halse
of Virginia. Also surviving is a grandson, Jay Bys of Minneapolis. She was preceded
in death by a son, Rodney in 1966. Edna was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Decorah and
married Wilbur Ackley on March 31, 1939, in Iowa City. He died in 1946. She managed
Robinsons and Graysons women's clothing stores and was finance director at the
YWCA until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of First Lutheran Church,
past president of the Soroptimist Club and was one of the founding members of
the Linn County Association for Retarded Children. Edna was a remarkable woman.
Her strength and courage has been an inspiration to her daughter. She will be
greatly missed. The Rev. Dan Kolander will officiate. Instead of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Camp Courageous. She was buried in Cedar Memorial
Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Linn , Iowa.82
