at Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow.
She was born July 3, 1912, in Mount Holly, the daughter of Wilfred and Olive
(Noreault) Gonyea.
She received her schooling in South Reading and did domestic work for a few years.
On July 3, 1932, she married Lowell Ackley in South Reading.
Mrs. Ackley and her husband owned and operated their family farm in South Reading
for many years until 1969 when Mr. Ackley died. She then became a caretaker for
area families until retiring in 1985.
She was a member of South Reading Church and South Reading Women's Club.
She enjoyed quilting, music, dancing and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Abbott of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Reading;
a son, Robert Ackley of Henderson, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren,
great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ackley was also predeceased by three brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
At her request, a private graveside service was held in South Reading Cemetery.
A gathering for family and friends will take place at a later date.

READING - Funeral services `for Lowell "Stub" Ackley, 64, who died
Jan. 17, 1998 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, were
held Jan. 21 at the South Reading Church. Rev. Carroll Langley, pastor, Springfield
Assembly of God Church officiated. Burial will be in the South Reading Cemetery
in the spring.
He was born Aug. 16, 1933 in Reading, son of Lowell and Hattie (Gonyea) Ackley
Sr.
Mr. Ackley farmed for many years and was later employed by the Reed Brothers
Grain Store in Claremont, N.H., and Park and Pollard Grain Store in Windsor,
before working for the Reading Town Highway Department and later for the State
of Vermont `Highway Department.
For over 25 years he was a caretaker for private property in Reading.
He married Shirley Stocker in South Reading on April 8, 1961.
Mr. Ackley was an avid hunter and had several teams of Belgian Horses with which
he enjoyed giving Hay Rides and Sleigh Rides. He was a member of the Eastern
Draft Horse Association and served as Selectman for the Town of Reading for six
years.
Survivors include his mother; and his wife, both of Reading; two sons, Carl
Ackley and Arthur Ackley, both of South Reading; two daughters, Debra Maynard
of Quechee, Cheryle Lambert of Springfield; one brother, Robert A. Ackley of
Henderson, N.Y.; one sister, Janet Abbott of Colorado Springs, Co.; nine grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Reading Old Stone Church, do
