Hampden , Massachusetts BLANDFORD - Arnold R. Ackley, 78, of Blandford
died Tuesday September 11, 2007 at Noble Hospital. He was born in Westfield on
September 9, 1929 to the late Percy and Ivy (Woods) Ackley and has lived in Blandford
all his life. Arnold was employed as an equipment operator for the Town of Blandford
for many years retiring in 1994, prior to that he was a logger and a truck driver.
He was a US Army Korean War Veteran serving in the Transportation Corps and a
charter member of American Legion Post 356. Arnold was a volunteer fireman for
the town of Blandford for over fifty years. He enjoyed being in the woods and
was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a former director at the Blandford Fair
and ran the horse draws for many years. Arnold leaves his wife Shirley (Starzyk)
Ackley, a brother Thomas Ackley of Blandford, a step-daughter Helen Condino of
Chicopee and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Alan
Ackley. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 2 p.m.
in the Blandford Chapel on Main Street in Blandford. Burial will be at the convenience
of the family. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers the family requests
that donations be made to the Blandford Volunteer Fire Dept. 93 Main St, Blandford
