Sheila GAUDET was born on 24 Feb 1937 in Bridgeport, Fairfield , Connecticut.493 She died on 9 Oct 2004 in Stonington, New London, Connecticut.493 Her Obituary appeared in the The Day on 11 Oct 2004 in New London, New London , Connecticut Stonington - Sheila (Gaudet) Slocum, 67, of Shawondasse Drive, Stonington, died Saturday, Oct. 9, at her home surrounded by her family and close friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Bridgeport on Feb. 24, 1937, the daughter of the late Winifred J. Gaudet and the granddaughter of the late Mabel G. Ackley.
She graduated in 1955 with the last class from the old Fitch High School in Groton and worked as a bookkeeper at the Groton Bank on Thames Street.
She married Walter K. Slocum Jr. in Elkton, Md., on June 27, 1955. He survives.
Mrs. Slocum had been employed as a teacher's aide at the Deans Mill School in Stonington for over 25 years. She so enjoyed working with the precious children and was an avid puzzle assembler and game player. She had a great love for music, and in her youth as a member of the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, and was also a soloist of the choir. She dabbled at playing the piano.
In addition to her husband of 49 years, she is survived by three sons, Walter K. Slocum III and his wife, Pam, of Pawcatuck, Mark J. Slocum and his wife, Harriet, of Newport News, Va., and Kevin J. Slocum and his wife, Kris, of Stonington; a daughter, Bethea L. Slocum of Stonington; grandchildren, Samantha, Chloe, Jordan, Quinn, Bailey, Avery, Welton, and Noel; one great-grandson, Zackery; a sister, Norma G. Ravanelle, and her husband, Richard, of Groton; nephew, Richard H. Ravanelle Jr.; and nieces, Nancy R. Fleming of Ledyard and Marsha R. Van Dyne of Voluntown.
For those whose lives she graced, her love for her family was legendary, and she will be forever in their hearts.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A private memorial service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
