Rapid River- Full military funeral services were held at Rapid River on Thursday afternoon for Frank W Ackley, 57, World War veteran who died at 6 a. m. Monday in the veterans' hospital at Dwight, Ill., where he had been a patient for the last year.
Mr. Ackley was a corporal in Co. C. 23rd Inf, Second Division during the World War. He enlisted April 19,, 1917, and was discharged Aug. 14, 1919, with a distinguished record of service which included participation in engagements on the Aisne front, Chateau Thierry, Marne, St. Mihiel, and Meuse Argonne. He left for overseas Dec. 17, 1917, and returned to the United States August 3, 1919. Up to the time of his illness he had held several offices in the Walter W. Cole post 301, American Legion, at Rapid River. He appeared in the census 1880, 1900 & 1930 in Michigan. He served in the military WW I in the US Army.25
