She. . Jemima Jane
lived in Isaac Ackley's log cabin well into her 80s. She never married. At
some point, my father, also Charles, and my grandfather S. Robert, went to
elverson and insisted she move to Allentown to live with her brother, Pop
Ackley (Charles Rittew) and niece Mazie. She is buried in the Ackley family
plot in Elverson, probably called Springfield Cemeter. She must have been a
hearty sole. She lived in that cabin with no modern improvements, no
electricity, no stove, no refrigerator, no indoor plumbing. she was a school
teacher. Raised chickens, used to cook one in a pot over the fireplace for
days. The log cabin was sold in 1950s and a descendant Kathryn Win, lives
there today. She sometimes dresses up like Jemima and gives tours of the log
cabin, now electrified etc. I remember Jemima as a small child. I was
fascinated with this old, old woman. She was thin and I imagine pretty
strong because even in her 90s she had chopped her own firewood to heat the
log cabin. One thing my daughter says is gross. Jemima had a wart on one of
her knuckles that grew to about 2 inches or so long. Funny the things that
impress a 5 year olfd
