From: Genealogy of the Bridgman Family: "He had been in the printing business
since fourteen years of age, and proprietor of six different newspapers. In 1853
he bought a printing office and became editor and proprietor of a newspaper in
Newark, NY. He writes (June, 1893) that he was a 'Whig' but now a Republican,
at the birth of which party he was present. Has never had any ambition in political
line, though as an editor has helped others in political preferment. He was editor
and proprietor for 16 years of 'The Ontario County Journal,' a weekly paper,
which he sold in 1891 and retired to his farm and lived upon his savings. His
death was very sudden. He was a Royal Arch Mason."
He was a Royal Arch Mason, a member of the E. and A.M and of
the New York State Press Association in which he was active. About 1878 he
built one of the earlier cottages at Oak Cliff on the west side of
