VICTIM'S ARM CAUGHT IN MACHINE Found Dead In Field

FULTON- A 44 year old South Hannibal man was killed yesterday afternoon when he became caught in a corn chopper while aiding a neighbor cutting ensilage. William M Ackley died of a broken neck and was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Marvin Dexter, according to Oswego County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Miano. Miano said that Ackley had gone into the corn field to aid Robert Haws on his farm in the Arnold road, a mile south of South Hannibal. Haws' was unloading ensilage at his barn shortly before 5 p.m. when Ackley's right arm became caught in the corn chopper as he attempted to adjust the machinery while it was running. Haws returned to the field and discovered the tragedy and ran to his home to summon aid after shutting off the machine. The body was removed to Lee Memorial hospital. District Attorney John R. Murray of Oswego Issued a verdict of accidental death. Aiding in the investigation was Special Deputy Frank Patane. Mr. Ackley was born In Seneca Falls but had resided for the last four years near South Hannibal, where he operated a farm that lay partly in Oswego and Cayuga counties. He was a member of South Hannibal Federated Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs, Genevieve Ackley, RN., a member of the Lee Memorial Hospital staff and a son, Richard Ackley; a brother, Arthur Ackley of Schenectady and a sister, Miss Nellie Ackley of Flint, Mich, Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Kinney Funeral Home in Weedsport.
