Ackley, age 73, residing in Sandusky, Ohio and Jacksonville, Florida died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, August 9, 2000 at his home in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on February 21, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio. he was a veteran of the Merchant Marines serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland, Ohio, a graduate of John Carroll University in Kansas City Osteopathic College. He served his internship and surgical residency at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He opened a private surgical practice in Cleveland from 1957-1973 and a private surgical practice in Jacksonville, Florida from 1973 to 1985. He moved to Sandusk,y in 1985 and was on the surgical staff at both Firelands Community Hospital and Providence Hospital until his retirement in 1994. He obtained his surgical certification and was a member and Fellow of American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He served on many medical committees and was a surgical examiner throughout the years. he was recognized with numerous achievements and accomplishments through his career. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Sandusky, Ohio, Holy Name Society of St. Margaret Mary Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Sandusky Yacht Club, Rockwell Trout Club, Sandusky I.A.B. Club, Plum Brook Country Club of Sandusky and Deerwood Country Club of Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theresa ' Terri' (Lussier) Ackley; one daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Michelle) Rowan of Jacksonville, Florida; one son, David Ackley of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandchildren and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Margaret (Brown) Ackley and one brother, John ' Jack' Ackley. Friends may call on Friday from 5-8 PM in the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM mass in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio. The Reverend Marty Nassr will officiate.
