Funeral services for Simmie Lou Carter Ackley, 84, will be at noon Friday, March
2, in Johnson Funeral Home.
The Rev. Vernon Chevalier will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory
Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Friday.
Mrs. Ackley died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in a Pasadena, Texas, hospital.
She was a native of Hico and had lived in Lake Charles since 1959. She was a
graduate of McNeese State University. She retired from J.J. Watson Elementary
School in Iowa. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was a church
clerk and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include one daughter, Tura Norton of Pasadena, Texas; two sons, Deryl
W. Ackley of New Orleans and Bryant R. Ackley of Lake Charles; three brothers,
Leon Carter and Herman Carter, both of Brookhaven, Miss., and Woodrow Carter of
Ruston; two sisters, Janell Colvin of Dubach and Winnie Colvin of West Monroe;
five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren She was buried in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.¹⁰ She was educated McNeese State University.¹⁰ Her Social Security Number was 436-54-9493 LA. Deryl Hudson "Bob" ACKLEY and Simmie Lou CARTER had the following children:
