Jonathan was married 3 times Jonathan ISHAM (son
of John ISHAM and Dorothy FOOTE) was born on 16 Jul 1759 in Colchester, New London
, Connecticut.543 He served
in the military Revolutionary War in Allen's Company of the First Regiment,
Connecticut Line.543 Jonathan
Isham enlisted Apr. 1, 1777, in Allen's Company of the First Regiment, Connecticut
Line, the same in which his cousin William Isham had enlisted, for three years;
made drummer June 1, 1778; discharged Mar. 7, 1780. He was wounded in the attack
on Stony Point, under Gen. Anthony Wayne. Extant papers of the regiment, belonging
to the Connecticut Historical Society, mention him as receiving pay, clothing,
supplies, etc. The Pension files at Washington, D. C. contain no reference to
him. As the first Pension Act was in 1818, it seems as if Jonathan had died before
that date, but of course he may not have applied for a pension After his discharge
from the army Jonathan Isham probably returned to Colchester. On July 10, 1787,
being then of Colchester, he purchased land in the town of Washington, Mass.
from his brother Ephraim Isham, and two weeks later more land in Washington from
Manuel Butin. He had his marriage recorded in Washington, and perhaps intended
to settle there, but his residence there was short. The deed from Butin to Isham
was recorded May 27, 1788. Later in 1787 he sold out to Butin and in the deed
is called Jonathan Isham of Pittsfield. How long he remained at Pittsfield is
unknown; he bought no land of record there; in 1798 he was a resident of Warren
county, O., township of Waynesville. An old diary has this entry: "He (Jonathan
Isham) settled in Ohio, Lebanon county, township of Waynesville, on Leason's
Creek, near Green county seat." He remained here only a few years, for by
1804 he had removed to Marion county, O., where his son Ephraim was born, and
by 1811 was of Springfield, Clark county, O., where his son Charles was born.
In the absence of definite information as to his movements, it is impossible
to state more clearly. He had a large family, but the names of only four have
been recovered. It is possible that after his death his last wife returned to
her kindred in Delaware county, N. Y., for we find his sons Ephraim and Charles
in that county, as young men just attaining their majority. Anna ACKLEY and
Jonathan ISHAM had the following children:
