CHARLES S ACKLEY
Charles S Ackley, an inventor who had been in the construction machinery industry
for forty years, died yesterday in his home at 35 Pierrepont Street, Brooklyn,
after a brief illness. His age was 78.
He invented the electrical bottom hole heater for oil wells and held patents
on the process for soil solidification. Secretary and director of the McKiernan-Terry
Corporation, construction equipment, he was vice president and director of Thermactor
Company, oil well heaters.
Born in New York, he was a founder of the McKiernan-Terry Drill Company in
1906, and a former commander general of the Society of American Wars. He belonged
to the St. Nicholas Society, Sons of the Revolution, Society of Mayflower Descendants
and Society of Colonial Wars.
Surviving are his widow, Emma; a daughter, Mrs Robert Mills; two brothers,
Oliver S and William C.; a sister, Mrs. Walter F Carter, and two grandchildren.
He was buried on 18 Dec 1951 in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, Dutchess

machinery executive, died Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. In Brooklyn, where she
had lived many years, she had been active in the Colony House, a philanthropic
group, and the Brooklyn Women's Republican Club. She lived at Columbus, Franklin
