1909. William HEWITT was born on 2 Jan 1817 in Jefferson, Schoharie , New York.86 He died between 1889 and 1891 in Maxville, Buffalo , Wisconsin.86 William Hewitt was a native of Pennslyvania, having been born near Erie in 1815. After his marriage in Pennslyvania he came to Marquette County, Wisconsin, where he remained for several years. Thence he removed to Lake City, Minn., coming from there to Maxville Township, Buffalo County, Wis., about 1858 and settling on a farm of 160 acres of government land on Maxville Prairie, being one of the earliest settlers in this region. Here he lived a prominent and respected citizen, until his death in 189l. William Hewett came into the county in the later part of this season and made a claim in Burns Valley, next to Herrick. He built a frame house next to the big spring next to the road and settled there with his family. The house was burned down several years after. A log house now occupies the same site. Mr. Hewett occupied the locality for two or three years and then sold out and left this part of the country. Tombstone has dates 1817 to 1888. In the 1880 census Maxville, Wisconsin, Buffalo County William was listed as age 64, Eliza age 56. Lillian was the only child still at home age 18.
