425: "A settlement was commenced in 1796, in the east part of the town (Hamilton),
called 'Colchester', now East Hamilton. The inhabitants, being chiefly emigrants
from Colchester, CT gave it the name of their native town. The Ackleys, Calvin,
Rodney, and Eli, three brothers, were conspicuous among the pioneers of Colchester.
Some of their children are in possession of some of the excellent farms these
men took up."
On page 427: "The Ackley farmers of East Hamilton, have been conspicuous
in agricultural societies, having frequently been awarded premiums for their

In the matter of the guardianship of the person & estate of Beverly C.
Ackley and of Olive B. Ackley , children of Eli Ackley deceased, minors
over 14 years.
Before James W. Nye Surrogate of the County of Madison in his Office in
the Village of Hamilton the 30th day of March 1844.
On filing the petition of Beverly C. Ackley and Olive B. Ackley minors of
the age of fourteen years and upwards, nominating and praying that Ira
Brainard of the Town of Hamilton in the County of Madison may be
appointed guardian of the said minors, and upon satisfactory proof taken
that the said minors are residents of said County, of the age of fourteen
years and upwards and that the personal estate & the [...] & profits
of the
real estate of the said minors will will not exceed the sums, to wit, on
the part of the said Beverly C. Ackley, three hundred and fifty dollars, &
on the part of said Olive B. Ackley, two hundred dollars. It is therefore
ordered, that the said Ira Brainard be appointed guardian for the said
minors during their minority on the said Ira Brainard entering into a
Bond to each of the said minors, with sufficient security to be approved
of by the said surrogate in the penal sum of four hundred dollars and
seven hundred dollars, that is to say, a Bond to the said Olive B. Ackley
in the penal sum of four hundred dollars & a Bond to the said Beverly C
Ackley in the penal sum of seven hundred dollars. Conditions that the
said Ira Brainard will in all things faithfully discharge the duty of a
guardian to the said minors according to law and render a true & just
account of all monies and property received by him and of the application
thereof & of his guardianship in all respects, to any court having
cognizance thereof when thereunto required & bringing the Bonds into
court.
