George M. Ackley was born in Groton, Tompkins County, NY on Sept. 17, 1828 and
died at his home in Clymer Twp June 28, 1899. Prior to his coming to Clymer,
which was on June 2, 1847 he married Susan M. Yale at Homer, Cortland Co., NY.
Nine children have been born to them, 2 of these, John E. and Elizabeth preceded
him in death. The present address of the family are as follows: Mrs. Nina A.
Singer, of Wellsville, NY; Miss Ann Ackley of Westfield, PA; H. C. Ackley of
Ellenburg, Wash.;p Mrs. Ida Mattison of Jamestown, PA; Mrs. W. Plank of Westfield,
PA; Frank Ackley of Sylvester, PA; and George R. Ackley of Sabinsville, PA. He
enlisted at Sabinsville on July 30, 1861 as 2nd Lieut. of Co. I 45th PA. Vol.
Infantry. He was honorably discharged July 31, 1862, at Aqua Creek, Virginia.
His funeral was held from the family residence on June 29th.
He was buried in Ackley Cemetery, Clymer Township, Tioga , Pennsylvania.49,1290

Son of Roswell and Almire (Southworth) Ackley, both of whom are deceased, was
born in Groton, Tompkins Co., N. Y., Sept. 17, 1828, ____ moved to Tioga Co.,
Pa., in 1848; his wife, Susan M. Yale, to whom he was married June 2, 1847, at
Homer, Cortland Co., N. Y., ____ born at that place March 23, 1829, of parents,
John and Alida _______ Etts) Yale, deceased. Nine children were born to this
marriage, Mina A., Ann, John E., died Jan. 11, 1883, Jane, Elizabeth, who died
Aug. 13, 1885, Charles H., Ida B., Frank A. and George B. Comrade Ackley was
33 years of age when he enlisted at Savineville, Pa., July 30, 1861, as 2d Lieut.
Of Co. I, 45th Pa. V. I., 9th A. C. Dec., 1861, he was injured in back while
building dock at Bay Point, S. C., and was treated at that place one week for
injuries. July 9, 1862, at Hilton Head, S. C., he sustained a sunstroke, being
treated in Co. Qtrs. For same. In 1862 he was again injured at Buckingham Ferry,
S. C., internally by falling and was treated for same in Co. Qtrs. He took part
in both engagements on James Island and was discharge Lieut. Ackley tendered
his services repeatedly but in all cases was rejected on account of physical
disability. Four brothers were soldiers in the late war, Lavinus, a member of
Co. D, 11th Pa. V. C., Henry a member of Co. D, 207th Pa. V. I., Chauncey C.
of Co. E. 11th Pa. V. C. and 1st Lieut. Of Co. D, 207th Pa. V. I., and B. S.
in Co. D, 207th Pa. V. I. A brother-in-law of his wife, Aaron Yale served in
Co. D, 207th Pa. V. I. The grandfather of Mrs. Ackley, Waitstill Yale, served
in the Continental Army, Revolutionary War. Mrs. Ackley is a lineal descendant
of Elisha Yale, the founder of Yale College, New Haven, Conn., and once Governor
of the State of Conn. Her father, John Yale, served in the United States Army,
War of 1812. Mrs. Susan M. Ackley is an active worker in the W. R. C. and a charter
member of Ackley Corps No. 44, Dept. Of Pa., of which she has served as President
of the Corps two terms. Comrade Ackley is Post Com. Of Sergt. H. C. Ackley Post,
469, he is at present engaged in farming and his postoffice address is Sabineville,
Pa.

died Saturday morning at the family home on the Breesport road, Town of Horseheads,

in Elmira. The funeral was held Monday; burial in Maple Grove cemetery, Horseheads.

Frank A., son of George M. and Susan (Yale) Ackley, was born March 4, 1866, in
Clymer township, Tioga county, PA.
He was educated at the local schools, his tuition being very limited; and was
reared on the farm, working in the lumber woods.
He subsequently removed to Brookfield township, where for sixteen years he rented
the Plank farm of one hundred and sixty acres; he then bought the farm near Westfield
where he now resides. He has recently purchased another two hundred and thirty
acres, including the old homestead which his grandfather formerly owned in Clymer
township. In addition to farming and selling feed in Westfield and brick, cement,
etc., he makes a specialty of stock dealing.
Mr. Ackley is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Westfield Lodge,
No..332, and is a communicant in the in the Baptist church. On January 1, 1891,
he married Nina Seamans, whose father, Dr. Seamans, was killed when she was four
years of age.

THE LATE ROY ACKLEY
George R Ackley, aged 54 years, 1 month 24 days, died at the Westfield General
Hospital, Jan, 12, 1929, of pneumonia. He was taken ill with flu, but continued
to look after his duties on the farm and pneumonia developed. He remained at
home for a day or two and then went to the hospital where physicians at once
recognized the hopelessness of his condition. Everything possible was done for
him, but nothing was able to relieve the congestion that had seized him. Death
came at 8:40 am
G Roy Ackley was a son of George and Susan M Ackley who died March 6, 1919.
He had been a lifelong resident of Sabinsville Clymer township where he was
one of its energetic farmers. He owned a large acreage and was noted for his
herds of registered Holstein cattle that he raised. He was popular and had held
several township offices and was a friend to all who were in distress.
He married Eva J Long on July 28 1893. To them were born one son, Wallace M
who survives; also two grandchildren; two brothers, Frank of Westfield and H
C Ackley of Ellensburg, Washington. Two sisters, Miss Anna Ackley, of West Field,
and Mrs Ida Matteson of Horsehead.
He was a member of the Benevolent Protectare Order of Elks, Hornell. N Y; The
Modern Woodmen of America, I O O F and the Grange.
The funeral was held Jan 15, Rev Mr Schaus, Episcopal minister of Westfield
officiating. The I O O F acting as pall bearers and the Elks ritual service
at the Ackley Cemetery.
George Roy, son of George M. and Susan (Yale) Ackley, and brother of Frank
A. Ackley, was born May 19, 1874, in Clymer township, Tioga Co., PA, on the farm
where he now resides and of which he is the owner. He has been very successful
as a general farmer and dealer in cattle, raising thoroughbred registered Holstein
cattle. He also contracts for silos and handles fertilizers. Mr. Ackley has
so prospered in his business that he has been able to add an adjoining farm of
one hundred and twelve acres to the original homestead farm of one hundred and
seventy acres, and he is now one of the wealthiest and most flourishing citizens
in this locality. In politics he is a Republican, and has been tax collector
of Clymer township for the past seven years. He is, like his brother, a member
of the Baptist church, and belongs also to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows,
Lodge No. 332, and Encampment No., 272; he is also a member of the Sabinsville
Grange, of the Modern Woodmen of America, No. 10157, of Sabinsville, and of the
Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, No. 364, fo Hornell.
