I certify that Warren Ackley a Corporal in Capt. Joseph Wescott’s
Company of Detached Malitia of New York in a Regiment commanded by
Colonel Ferninand Stranahan of Cooperstown under General Stephen
VanRanseller of Albany that he the said Ackley was mustered and joined the
Regiment on the 6th day of September in the year 1812 and marched in the
Service of the United States to the Niagra Frontier and continued there under the Command of Capt. Wescott until after the Battle of Quinton wich was on 13th of October then under my Command until on or about the first day of November and was Honorably Discharged.

Warren Ackley settled on the wilderness hill and commenced new county farming. Soon after the first settlers - John I. Quackenbush purchased a hill farm, erected log buildings, and was very prosperous. William Yeoman and others followed their example. The place was then called Shaw Hill. The land on this hill was of good soil, and well timbered, but rather stony. In consequence of the stone, Lemuel Ackley gave it a new name. He called it "Stone Arabia" and it has always retained the same name.

At the present time not one of the old settlers or their children live on that hill. Warren Ackley reared a family of five sons and six daughters. His oldest son Mitchell married Eliza Quackenbush. His third son Lemuel married Lydia Gurney, who had several children. One of his sons Charles is the principal undertaker of the town of Laurens. His son Willis was a hop merchant.





His son George W. Ackley became administrator of his estate on December 29, l874 (Otsego Letters of' Administration). Both he and his wife could not read or write

1855 census lists Warren Ackley aged 72 of Milford NY with the following household: Demarious aged 65 and sons James aged 19 and George aged 29. The 1855 census listed the farm belonging to Warren and son George as including 85 acres of improved land and 16 acres unimproved land. The crop in 1854 included 12 tons of hay, 20 bushels of oats, 9 bushels of rye, 15 bushels of buckwheat 50 bushels of corn, 110 bushels of potatoes, 2000 pounds of hops and 30 bushels of apples. On the farm were 3 cattle and seven cows, 5 horses 5 swine and 29 sheep. the farm also produced eggs and 400 pounds of butter (1855 census).

Ezra Stevens' History of Milford NY states that Warren Ackley and Peter Scott settled on wilderness farms on the hill west of Colliers and commenced new country farming and that Warren reared a family of five sons and six daughters His third son Lemuel married Lydia Gurney. Otsego County Land Records list sales between Warren and Demarious and Lemuel Ackley on March l6, 1847 (Vol. 80 page 281 ) and between Warren Ackley and George Ackley on November 7, 1869 (Vol. 166 p 371). 1850 census list adjacent farms to Warren Ackley belonging to Michael Ackley, Eli Ackley, Lemuel Ackley and John and Rachel Cook, who were listed with children Warren and Demarious Cook. Warren Ackley bought land in Otsego County NY in l838 and 1841. He sold land in 1844-47-68 in Otsego County NY (Grantor-Grantee Lists Otsego County)
