VOTED--to accept and establish Wm. Cone for Captain, Nathaniel Sparrow for a
Lieutenant and Gideon Ackley for an Ensign, of a Company of Householders and
others not in the militia roll who have formed themselves into a company in the
town of East Haddam, and his Honor the Governor is desired to commission them
accordingly."
Gideon Ackley is recorded as an Ensign in the book, "Connecticut Men in
the Revolutionary War," published by the State. His name is found under
the heading, "Minute Men and Volunteers--1776." His services in aid
of establishing American Independence have been accepted by the Daughters of
the American Revolution, as furnishing a valid claim to membership in that society.
