In Whiting, on the 16th inst. Mr. Benajah Ackley, Aged 75 years. He was one
of the first settlers in that town,-he was a very kind father, a good neighbor,
and an industrious and honest man. He died in full belief of a blessed immortality
beyond the grave. He has left many descendants of the first, second and third
generations, to mourn over their loss. He appeared in the census 1790, 1800,
1810 & 1820 in Maine. He served in the military Revolutionary War

Benajah Jr participated in what is widely recognized as the first military action
of the Revolutionary War. He along with other farmers and fishermen from the
Machias, Washington Co. Me. area , assualted by dory and rowboat the British
Frigate H.M.S. Margurite on the Machias River and succeeded in capturing it.
