in Portsmouth, Rockingham , New Hampshire POLICE COURT.
James Ackley and John Olton, farm hands employed by Charles Garland, the Gravelly
Ridge milkman, had warrants sworn out against each other early this morning and
were arraigned before Judge Emery at 11 o'clock. Ackley charged Olton with threatening
his life, while Olton complained that he was in fear of bodily injury from Ackley.
Justice Adams appeared for Ackley, and City Solicitor Emery was Olton's counsel.
Mr. Garland testified that this deadly feud was entirely new to him, and that
both men had always acted peacefully. Olton said that Ackley declared that one
of them should die right there in Mr. Garland's yard, if Olton persisted in hitching
up the team that Ackley has been used to driving. Ackley, on the other hand,
said that Olton had pointed a revolver at him, from no cause whatever. Mrs. Olton
testified that she kept her husband's revolver locked in her trunk, and that
he couldn't get it without obtaining the keys from her. Neither case panned out
well enough to warrant Judge Emery in holding the parties, so he discharged both
Ackley and Olton. On 2 Apr 1910 he was a railrod laborer at Portsmouth, Rockingham
, New Hampshire.2203 He
appeared in the census 1900 & 1910 in New Hampshire. |
