ACKLEY, BETSEY (MORSE)
Betsey Morse Ackley died at the home of her granddaughter in Geneseo, N.Y., Feb.
27th, aged 87 years. In October 1907 she suffered a stroke of paralysis which
left her a helpless invalid. She was born in the town of Westmoreland, Oneida
County, NY, July 16th 1823, the daughter of Stephen and Arvilla Whitman Morse.
In 1842 March the 16th was married to Abram Ackley. In the spring of 1850 the
family moved with their own conveyance onto a farm one mile south of Hermitage,
which was their home for 25 years. She resided in Wyoming County until the spring
of 1888 when she with her family moved to Long Point, Conesus Lake.
She was a woman of activity, one who enjoyed life, a true and trusty friend,
a believer in Christ and near the close before her illness united with the Methodist
Church in Geneseo. She laves a daughter, Mrs. Henry M. Whitman, of Geneseo,
two grandchildren, Mrs. Wm. Carson and Bessey Whitman who is teaching at Yonkers,
NJ, and three great grand children also three nephews, Frank Morse of Abilene,
Kansas, Earl and John Morse both of Bliss, NY. Rev. Dr. Millspaugh officiated
and the burial was at Temple Hill Cemetery, Geneseo
