She is in fairly good health despite the fact that she has reached the century mark and is stilt able to do her own housework. She cares for her small apartment the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.. Mervin D. Ackley. Mrs. Ackley was born in the town of Richland and moved to Orwell at an early age. She later lived for years in the town of Worth and came to this city following the death of her husband, William P. Ackley. Her son operates a grocery store at 603 Bradleyt. He is the only one of Mrs. Ackley's four children

Watertown, N. Y., Aug.22- (AP)-Mrs. Mary Hollis Ackley is 102 but she would like to get down to Washington where, she says she “could straighten out a few things.”
She expressed that wish in celebrating her birthday yesterday.

MRS ACKLEY IS 103 YEARS OLD TOMORROW

WATERTOWN- Northern New York's oldest woman resident will celebrate her 103rd birthday tomorrow. She is Mrs Mary Hollis Ackley of 603 Bradley St., who is in fairly good health despite the fact she has passed the century mark. She resides at the home of her son, Mervin D Ackley who is 76. She does her own light housework, her washing and prepares her own meals. Early last spring she suffered to fractured ribs which resulted in her hospitalization for a few weeks. She fully recovered and returned to her home.
Mrs Ackley, who is the widow of William Pitt Ackley, a Civil War veteran, is unable to go out of doors, but has callers daily. Her eyesight is poor and she is not able to read, but enjoys listening to the radio.
She has one brother, Robert Wood Hollis of Huntington Park, Calf., who will be 98 in October. Their father Samuel died at an early age of 46, while her mother Lucy Ann Crocker Hollis died at the age of 70 years.
Mrs Ackley's husband died in 1911 and since then she has lived with her son. She had three other children but all of them are dead.
Mrs Ackley was born on Aug 21, 1847 in the town of Richland. Her parents were pioneers of Oswego County and when she was young they moved to Orwell. For many years after that she and her husband lived un the town of Worth. She has lived here since 1911. Her marriage to Mr Ackley took place in 1871.

WATERTOWN- Mrs Mary Hollis Ackley, 103, oldest resident of Northern New York, died yesterday at the family home, 603 Bradley St. after a short illness. She had been in failing health since she fell at her home last May. Until recently she was able to aid in the housework.
Mrs Ackley, widow of William P Ackley, a Civil War veteran was born in the town of Richland on Aug 21 1847, daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel Hollis. At an early age she moved with the Hollis Family to Orwell and in 1871 she was married to Mr Ackley.
The couple resided in the town of Worth for a time and later moved to a farm near Belleville. They came to this city in the fall of 1911 and Mr Ackley died in February, 1912.
She is survived by a son, Mervin D Ackley, 77, of 603 Bradley st., with whom she lived.
Funeral services will be tomorrow at 2 P M from the Northam & Fox funeral home. The Rev Barber L Waters, pastor of First Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Worth. Fiftieth Anniversary

WATERTOWN -Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Ackley, of 603 Bradley st, observed their 50th wedding anniversary by entertaining friends at luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. Ackley were married in 1901 at Lorraine by the Rev. ,J. W. Higby, pastor of the Lorraine and Worthville Methodist churches. MR. ACKLEY was born in the town of Rodman on Jan. 24, 1873, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Pitt Ackley. He came to the town of Worth with his father where they worked together on the farm until his marriage. After leaving the farm he and his wife moved to Watertown where he entered the D. S. Brown harness factory. Later he entered into partnership with J. E. Petrie in a harness store and shop. In 1912 he bought the Chase grocery store at 720 W. Main st. which he operated for 27 years at that location. In 1939 he moved his business to his home, 603 Bradley st. where he still operates a parlor grocery. Mrs. Ackley was born in the town of Worth, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Charles Grant. She taught school in the towns of Rodman and Worth. She was organist in Worthville Methodist church for twelve years. Later she was organist at Bethany Methodist church. Mr. Ackley was formerly a member Of the Harmony club chorus and orchestra, playing the snare drum He died on 26 Jan 1957.2369 He appeared in the census 1880, 1900, 1920 & 1930 in New York. 10 Jan 1920 to 21 Aug 1947 he was Grocery Store Owner at Watertown, Jefferson , New York.1012,1100,1453
