Joseph L Ackley.
A highly regarded citizen of this community passed away at his home last Thur.
after a lingering illness of six years Many friends in Custer County and elsewhere
will deeply regret the passing of this esteemed and respected citizen
Coming to Custer county with his parents when a small boy, he
knew the hardships of a pioneer which molded him into a greater and finer man.
He lived an upright life and leaves as a heritage the record of a clean and
wholesome life.
Joseph Leon Ackley was born in Taylor county Iowa, January 20 1880 and departed
this life November 4, 1937 age 57 years, 9 months and 19 days. He was the son
of Mr. & Mrs. Warren Ackley and with them came to Custer County when he
Was 2 years of age, when they settled on a homestead on Columbia after a few
years they moved to Missouri on account of the father's health. His father passed
away while there and the family returned to Custer county and settled on the
farm on which the mother died and on which Joe and his family have lived since.
In 1907 he was united in marriage to Bessie Ullum of Milburn. To this union
two sons were born Henry W. and Clifford L who with the loving wife are left
to mourn his going. Mr. Ackley became sick about six years ago and was taken
many places and consulted specialists, but only temporary relief came to him,
lit has been a patient suffer and f or the past three months was unable to leave
his bed and and was tenderly cared for by his loved ones and nurses He also leaves
two brothers Charles of California and Roy whose address is not known, and one
sister Amy Ackley of California.
Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church. Rev, WA
Baldwin of Broken Bow gave a consoling sermon. The beautiful hymns "He knows
the way" "Nearer my God to thee" were impressively sung by Misses
Maxine Moulton and Messrs Geo.. Showalter and Russell Lehmanowsky. The pall bearers
were close friends and neighbors of the deceased. Alva Chrisp, George Kellog,
Harry Mason, Wn Klatt, Will Christy and Paul Sorter Relatives front out of town
attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Ready of Lyman, Nebr Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Sanon and Miss Bernice Ullum of Douglas, Wyo.
Burial was made in the Grand View Cemetery.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.
