died suddenly last Thursday evening. He came to this village from Northern Pennsylvania
about 5 months ago and made his home with his son, Fred Ackley who is employed
by David Relihas and resides in the old red farmhouse No. 4 Main
Street. Mr Ackley was suffering with heart disease and his son accompanied him
on a walk up town to allow him to get more air, and when they approached the
Empire Picture House, opposite Court Street, the old gentleman was so weak that
his son took him into the theatre, where he could lie down. In a short time
death had come to his relief. Coroner E E Baver MD was summoned, C E Van Buskirk
& Son Undertakers took charge of the body, Coroner Baver deciding that death
resulted from natural causes. Mr Ackley was born in Pennsylvania on Feb 19, 1841.
He was a veteran of the forty-fifth Reg. Pennsylvania Volunteers. He had resided
with his son about five months at the time of his death. Besides his son he
is survived by six daughters- Mrs William N Sweeney of Syracuse; Mrs Charles
Snyder, of Athens, Pa.; Mrs Thomas Judge of the Southside Owego; Mrs Ray Griswold
of South Apalachin; Mrs Edward Steward of Catatonk and Mrs Harvey Beckwith of
Cadis, Pa. The Rev Warren O Taylor officiated at the funeral which was held
at the Van Buskirk Chapel at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Burial was made in
the South Owego Cemetery. He was buried in South Owego Cemetery, Tioga , New
York.29 He appeared in the
census 1850, 1860, 1900 & 1910 in Pennsylvania. He served in the
military Civil War in F Co. 48th Inf Reg. PA.27,28 Absent, sick. at muster out-Vet

morning, Sept. 21, at her home in Warren Centre, Pa., after a long illness.
Her funeral was held this afternoon at the South Owego church, Rev. W. L. Pitcher
officiating. Her maiden name was Darling. Besides her husband she leaves one
son, Fred Ackley, of Warren Centre, and five daughters, among whom are Mrs. Thomas
Judge, of the valley road, town of Owego; Mrs. Cora Beckwith, of Warren Centre;
Mrs. Edward Stewart, of the town of Tioga, and Miss Florence Ackley, of this
village. She was buried in South Owego Cemetery, South Owego, Tioga , New York.26 She appeared in the census 1850,
