Will was born in Johnson City, N.Y. in 1926. He was a decorated veteran in his country during WWII in the Army in the Pacific Theater as an Island Hopper. Later he was employed by IBM for 45 years. He retired and moved to Florida with his bride Eleanor, until his return to Holly Springs in 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Ackley; his mother, Hazel Ackley; and his twin brother, Willard Ackley. He is survived by his other brothers, Earl and Bill Ackley. His loving wife of 56 years, Eleanor Breno Ackley and their three children also survive him. The eldest, Sandra Rollman and her family, Tex.; son, Gary and his family, Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Janet and her family, Holly Springs; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, June 1, 2003, at 3 p.m., at Holly Springs United Methodist Church (557-3467) in Holly Springs, N.C. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to any non-profit Alzheimer's Treatment and Research Center. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Brian Center nurses and Pastor Horace Ferguson of H.S.U.M.C.
