Elmore M. Ackley, Sr., 75, Onaga, died Friday, July 18, at a Topeka hospital. Mr. Ackley worked in Pueblo, Colo., from 1929 until 1943, then in Waverly a year and Silver Lake a year before he moved to Zeandale in 1945. He there operated Zeandale Store and Lockers until 1957 when he moved to Onaga where he owned and operated Ackley Plumbing and Heating Co. He later operated the Tidy Bite Drive-In, then Golden Knight Supper Club, both at Onaga. He also built and operated the Golden Spur Mobile Home Court at Onaga.
He was born May 4, 1911, at Belvue, the son of George and Ella Ewing Ackley. Mr. Ackley was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church at Duluth. He was married to Sylvia Teske of Duluth June 4, 1929, at Falls City, Neb. She died Feb. 16, 1978. A daughter Dalene Sylvia Ackley, also preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ruthella Tabler, Salina; and Mrs. Betty Smith, Clifton; three sons, Elmore Ackley, Jr., Topeka; Herman Ackley, West Chester, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Scully, Silver Lake; and Mrs Dora Spacek, Waverly; a brother, George Ackley, Havensville; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Duluth. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery at Duluth. Mr. Ackley will lie in state after noon today at Tessendorf mortuary in Onaga and an hour before service time at the church. Contributions may be made to the E. M. Ackley memorial fund to be designated at a later time by the family and sent in care of the funeral home
