employed by the Army as a Supervisory Staft Logistics Specialist, GS 13, for
20 years and retired from that position 30 January 1983.

Arkansas FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army Maj. John Mayes Ackley,
84, of Fayetteville died Sept. 15, 2004. He was born April 21, 1920, in Pryor,
Okla., to Jesse Martin and Ruth Ann Wright Ackley. He was a veteran of World
War II, serving in the Pacific Theater and was decorated for valor from wounds
suffered in combat. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor
of arts degree in business management. After 20 years in the military, he continued
his career with the Department of the Army as director of training for the 122nd
Army Reserve Command, completing 45 years of government service before retiring
to Northwest Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy Jenneman
Ackley and Anna Carolyn Loy Ackley. Survivors include two daughters, Tommi Louise
Perkins and Patricia Jill Pummill, both of Fayetteville; one son, Martin M. Ackley
of Springdale; numerous grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m.
Monday at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. Arrangements are by Luginbuel
Funeral Home in Prairie Grove. Memorials may be made to the Regional National
