Ida Mae "Grandma" Lowery Ackley, 76, of Jefferson, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.

She was born May 26, 1923, in Pine Bank, a daughter of John and Hattie Virginia Morris Maine.
Mrs. Ackley lived most of her life in Swarts and for the past four years in Jefferson.
She worked in the housekeeping department at Greene County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Ackley was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Waynesburg.
She was married twice, her first husband, Kenneth Erwin Lowery and her second husband, John Howard Ackley, are both deceased.
Surviving are 11 daughters, Nettie McDonald of Prosperity, Bernice Miller and Elsie Ackley, both of Washington, Beverly Desiderio of Canonsburg, Laura Melton of Florida, Mary Antill of Washington, Sally Eddy of Waynesburg, Stella Cratty of Nemacolin, Carol Donaldson of Carmichaels, Cindy Kiger of New Freeport and Melissa Buffington of Jefferson; six sons, Charles Ackley of Washington, Eugene Lowery of Wyoming, Tom Lowery of Carmichaels, Howard Ronald Ackley of Spraggs, Ernie L. Ackley of Mt. Morris, and John E. Lowery of Coal Center; 58 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, John W. Ackley and Eddy Ackley; a sister, Florence Curfman; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
