"I think grandmother's people did resent granddaddy - you know he was
crippled. He had what they called a white swelling in his right leg. When he was
just a boy he told me he had the fever that summer and then got the trouble with
his leg. I think he probably had Rhebitis.
He learned the nursery business and followed that as long as he lived. He
was with the Munson Nurseries, one of the oldest in the states. Grandmother
was a spirity little old lady. I remember being at her place one time and she took me and went for a walk or traipse as she called it. There was a creek that ran through their place and it was dry.
We walked along the creek bed there were little patches of sand. She would take it up and examine it. She said to me "We may find gold in some of this sand".
Sylvester Rush, the famous attorney, used to come visit dad now and then as long as dad lived.
(Note: "dad" was Sherman Ackley). I heard him tell dad one time that he thought Sam and Sarah had done as well or better than most of the family, that they had pioneered and had helped to open up and civilize a lot of the U.S. besides raising a good group of solid citizens for the country. He was a nephew of
grandmother."

Letter dated 21 December 1952 from Ida to Henry Samuel and Eva (Baker) Childers Sr.:

"Jack (Ida's husband) works in the shipyard. Perry and Ruth (Perry Albert and Ruth (Jacobson) McColIom; Ida's son and his wife) live in Wash. The girls live 13 miles from us. ("The girls" are probably Ida's granddaughters Donna Lee And Sandra Darlene Howell and possibly EIsa Mae Whittington)."

When Ida wrote the above she lived in Stockton, CA.
