From the outside, the suburban home of Mr. and Mrs. William Ackley looks like any other on the quiet Woobury N J street. Inside, however, a visitor might think he had wandered into an aviary by mistake. Bird cages are everywhere in the living room. A wise old parrot of 75 occupies a choice spot near the window. One entire wall is covered with shelves for the canaries.
The dinning room has its own feathered assortment. There are mynah birds, parakeets and a specially-built, floor-to-ceiling cage of African green singing finches, orange-bill weavers, gold finches and strawberry finches. The attic has been turned into the birds maternity center.
The Ackley's have about 250 birds, which they breed as a hobby. Their success at making their feathered guests feel at home has brought so many callers to their door with bird problems that Mr. Ackley is writing a book telling other home owners how they, too, can enjoy life in a bird cage He was living in 1952 in Woodbury, Gloucester, New Jersey.¹⁰ He died in Mar 1955.⁵ His Social Security Number was 139-05-8863 NJ.⁵
