14. William Ackley WOODS was born on 10 Dec 1912 in Bowdoin Center, Sagadahoc, Maine.6,9,19 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Maine. He died on 8 Feb 1999 in Bowdoin Center, Sagadahoc, Maine.6,19 His Obituary appeared in the Sun Journal in Feb 1999 in Lewiston, Androscoggin , Maine BOWDOIN – William Ackley Woods, 86, of Rt. 201, died Monday, Feb. 8, at his residence.

Born at Bowdoin, Dec. 10, 1912, the son of U. Grant and Jane Ackley Woods, he attended Bowdoin schools and in 1932 graduated from Coombs High School at Bowdoinham.

Mr. Woods did market gardening and on April 13, 1941 married Eva M. Nichols at Hillsboro, N.H.

He worked at Bath Iron Works during World War II and raised broilers, (which are chickens). In 1950 he worked for U.S. Gypsum Co. at Lisbon Falls, retiring in 1973. He later raised beef cattle on his farm.

Mr. Woods had been legally blind and deaf for 10 years and still enjoyed working on his wood pile, which he did nearly every day. He had the Boston Post Cane for being the oldest citizen in the Town of Bowdoin.

Survivors include his wife of Bowdoin; two sons, William A. II of Matlock, Wash., and Eric N. of Bowdoin; one daughter, Cheryl Erb of Santa Monica, Calif.; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Amanda and Erica, all of Bowdoin; and several nieces and nephews.
