Tokage Piggyback ride for Yamori Home!

Tokage is a female approximately 2 years old and she is 13"svl. For those of you who are wondering what "svl" stands for, it is snout-to-vent length. Measurements are taken from the tip of the iguanas nose to the vent, which is the area from which the iguana relieves itself. It is not uncommon for iguanas to loose their tails and svl measurements are more accurate for comparing. Tokage's total length with tail is 42"

Yamori is probably a little less than a year old and is 7"svl and a total of 23" including the tail. We haven't determined Yamori's sex as of yet. Yamori is a little fiesty bugger and even after daily handlings continues to whip me with his tail and struggle to get loose. I'll continue to keep at it and make it known that it won't be that easy to get rid of me. You've got to show them who is boss or they will never tame.

Tokage and Yamori are prime examples that iguanas can thrive without the need of animal protein. One of the things that attracted me to the iguana was the fact that they are vegans and that I wouldn't have to feed them live food. The staple of my iguana's diet are collard greens, squash, green beans and fruit for treats. I rotate in other available veggies occasionally for variety, but collard greens are their favorite.

We are lucky enough to live in an area where summer months are quite warm, 90-100 degrees, and Tokage and Yamori are able to live outside full-time and get plenty of direct sunlight.

I will be rotating pictures and changing them often, so please keep us bookmarked so that you can view the changes and going-ons of Tokage and Yamori.

Susan Harrell's iguana, Nicodemus.

2 yr., old male, 11.25 in. SVL, 3 lb.. in US, state of Ohio. Given to us at 1.5 yr. old. Undernourished, beginning MBD, no parasites. Burns on chest from heat rock. Now in 48"x56"x30" custom enclosure, vitalight and incandescent UV light. Eats like a "horse" already 1/3 larger. Sheds every 3 weeks. Potty trained to his swimming pool. Still antisocial, but no biting, just tail whipping and scratching. Favorite foods: curly mustard greens, green beans, yellow squash and WHITE grapes (hates red grapes!) Also likes dandelion greens and collard, apples, oranges and snow peas. HATES strawberries, won't touch his food if they are in it-would rather fast! Gorgeous bright green, lime green under, black stripes, aqua head and neck. Bright, inquisitive, independent. Very little head-bobbing except at the birds outside the windows! 3 broken spines, growing back - one bad toenail, vet said a fungus infection - may not heal to perfection, but doesn't seem to bother him.

Climbing up to see what Mom is doing with the clicky, flashy thing. LET ME OUT! Nice clean home, complete with swimming pool!
Such a good looking guy! Up close and personal Shower time.....

If you are thinking of getting an iguana or if you already have one, please visit the links below if you haven't already. Iguanas are fasinating pets, but they take special care. The diet of an iguana is very specific and every effort should be taken to make sure it is balanced. Animal protien is a big no-no! Iguanas need special lighting and the right temperatures are a must. Those cute little green babies grow into impressive large adults, that take up allot of space. Arrangements for a 6 foot long lizard should be thought out before getting that small hatchling. They grow quickly!
