Acquired Faith

A comfortable smile she uses to welcome.

A randy wink he uses to comfort.

A down on her luck teen using her brain.

A well to do boy using his father.

An easy friendship blossoms into more.

While her funds run low from living.

He knows not of her sufferings for her love cushions him,

And ignorance on his part is not bliss on hers.

One absence, then another, then a week has passed.

A phone call brings a vocal tear

But money had him blinded to her plight.

Now a lover's pledge brings hope of a future.

He gives all he can in material things

Not yet realizing money can't buy all.

Her happiness cannot be bought;

Only through love will he learn this.

One day his absence is felt and she goes,

A theft, a taking of more than money but of life.

He feels alone and unsure of her devotion

When she says naught but holds him and he is whole.
