Beverly Atkinson died - Jan. 2002 (Nurse at Collinsport Hospital)
She was one of the few black actors to appear on DS. She is noted primarily for her stage work, but also has some film work to her credit.

John Baragrey (James Blair) Blair was a man who worked for Burke Devlin in the early pre-Barnabas episodes.

John Beal died - Apr. 26, 1997 (Judge Vail)
He died of a stroke in Santa Cruz, Ca. at age 87 His acting career lasted more than 60 years. His debut was in 1933's "Another Language". He had many roles in TV and film and had a long career on Broadway. In his last film, he was a bearded villain in "The Firm".

Joan Bennett died - Dec. 7, 1990 (Elizabeth Stoddard, Naomi Collins, Judith Collins, Flora Collins)
She died from a heart attack at age 80 after a 50+ year career working with many famed actors and directors. She made many movies, including "The Woman in the Window" and "Scarlet Street". She was one of the finalists for the role of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone with the Wind".

Chris Bernau died - Jun. 14, 1989 (Phillip Todd)
He died of a heart attack. He was noted for his popularity as Alan Spaulding on CBS' Guiding Light. He was in the 1968 Broadway play "The Boys in the Band"

Clarice Blackburn died - Aug. 1995 (Mrs. Johnson, Abigail Collins, Minerva Trask, Mrs. Castle-NODS)
She died of cancer. She was in other soaps and won the Daytime Emmy as part of the writing team for "All My Children".

Barbara Cason died - Jun. 18, 1990 (Mrs. Johnson-HODS)
She died of cancer. She was happily married to DS actor Dennis Patrick (Jason McGuire/Paul Stoddard). She had an extensive career as director, actress, singer, and dancer.

Joel Crothers died - Nov. 6, 1985 (Joe Haskell,lt. Nathan Forbes)
He died of cancer. He had roles on "Edge of Night"and "Santa Barbara".

Dan Curtis born - August 12, 1928 died - March 27, 2006 (Producer/Director)
He died of a brain tumor just 20 days after Norma, his wife of 54 years, died of heart failure.
Curtis reached a career high as producer, director and co-writer of "The Winds of War." It was successfully followed by the sequel, "War and Remembrance."

Keene Curtis died - Oct. 13, 2002 (voice of Judah Zachary)
At age 79, Curtis passed away, following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was perhaps best known to television audiences as John Hill, owner of the upstairs restaurant on Cheers. He had many television guest appearances in addition to these roles and appeared on Broadway in numerous
productions, including La Cage Aux Folles.

He died of a heart attack. He had many roles in TV and films, such as "Journey to the Center of the Earth"and "Rocky".

Louis Edmonds born - Sep. 24, 1923 died - Mar. 3, 2001 (Roger Collins, Joshua Collins, Edward Collins, Daniel Collins, Amadeus Collins, Brutus Collins)
He died of respiratory difficulties after a brief illness. Louis Edmonds and Joan Bennett were the only actors to appear in both the first and last episodes of Dark Shadows. Louis Edmonds is also fondly remembered as Langley Wallingford on "All My Children."

Dana Elcar born - October 10, 1927 died - June 6, 2005 (Sheriff George Patterson)
He died from complications from pneumonia at age 77. Dana Elcar was probably best known for his role as the best friend and boss of the crime-fighting "MacGyver", played by Richard Dean. Elcar's real-life struggle with blindness was written into his role on the television adventure series. Mr. Elcar, who had glaucoma, told producers he was going blind after four seasons with "MacGyver," so they adapted his character to match his medical condition. By the end of the show's run, he had become almost completely blind.

David Ford died - Aug. 7, 1983 (Sam Evans, Andre DuPres)
He died of a heart attack at age 58. He was married to Nancy Barrett for a short time during the run of DS. He played John Hancock in both the movie and Broadway versions of "1776". His first major role in New York was that of "Claggart"in an Off Broadway production of
"Billy Budd"in 1955. On Broadway, he appeared with Gertrude Berg in "A Majority of One" and with Edward G. Robinson in "Middle of the Night". He made many commercial narrations for TV and radio.

Hugh Franklin died - 1986 (Lawyer Richard Garner)
He had a career in TV, film, and Broadway stage. He was on ABC's "All My Children" as the first husband of Phobe Tyler. Louis Edmonds would later play another of her husbands.

Anthony George died - Mar. 16, 2005 (Age 84) (2nd Burke Devlin,Jeremiah Collins)
He died of a lung condition. He moved to Hollywood in 1948 and his first credited movie role was as a thug in "Where The Sidewalk Ends" in 1950. He had the regular role of "Don Corey" in "Checkmate" (1960-62). He also was a soap regular as "Dr. Will Vernon" on "One Life to Live" 1977-84 and "Dr. Tony Vicente" on "Search for Tomorrow" 1970-75. SG notes other TV roles: "Cam Allison" on "The Untouchables" in 1960, ""Policewoman" and "Wonder Woman" in 1977, "Simon and Simon" in 1988, and many more. He did the voice-over for a Vicks Vapor Rub commercial. He was "Nick Arnstein" in "Funny Girl" on Broadway and on tour, and appeared in productions of "The Front Page,""Sunday in New
York," "Cactus Flower," "The Rainmaker", "Come Blow Your Horn,"
Mister Roberts," and others.
In 1991, he was honored with a bronze star on the Sidewalk of Stars in Binghamton.

Timothy Gordon died - Sep. 28, 1993 (Hand of Barnabas, Body & Ghost of Jeremiah, Hand of Count Petofi, minister, spectator)
He died of pneumonia. He's best remembered for his charity work for the abused, homeless, young, and elderly in NYC and New England. He volunteered and worked with the volunteer troupe, SRO PLayers, presenting live theater for 10+ years in NYC shelters for the homeless and abused.

Stanley Grover died - Aug. 24 1997 (Det. Frank Paxton,1970 PT) He died of leukemia, at the U.C.L.A. Medical Center, in Los Angeles, at age 71. His obituary was in the Sep. 22, 1997 New York Times. He was in the Apr. 9, 1970 D.S. episode where he was questioning Cyrus about his whereabouts the previous night, when Sabrina had been attacked in her room.

Grayson Hall born - Sept. 18, 1923 died - Aug. 7, 1985 (originally Shirley Grossman, changed to Shirley Grayson, then Grayson Hall) (Dr. Julia Hoffman, Countess Natalie DuPres, Magda Rakosi, Julia Colins, Constance Collins, Carlotta Drake-NODS)
She died of of Lung Cancer. She was nominated for a Supporting Actress Oscar as "Judith Fellowes"in Night of the Iguana. She was "Eupemia Ralston"on ABC's "One Life to Live", while her husband Sam was a writer on the show. Sam and Grayson's son, Matthew, has become a writer himself, and his 2nd book, "The Art of Breaking Glass"has been published.

George Matthews died - Nov. 14, 1984 (Amos Fitch)
He died of heart disease in Caesars Head, SC at age 73. He was born in Brooklyn. He was a stage screen and TV actor, who's acting career ranged from the classics to gangster roles. In 1949 he took over the role of "Mitch"on Broadway in "A Streetcar Named Desire". His film credits include "Up in Arms"with Danny Kaye, "Pat and Mike"with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, and "The Last Wagon."His TV credits include "The Untouchables", "Dr. Kildare", "Gunsmoke", "Route 66", and "Perry Mason".

Dennis Patrick born - on March 18, 1918 in Philadelphia died - Oct. 13, 2002 (Jason McGuire, Paul Stoddard)
Dennis Patrick died of smoke inhalation at the age of 84, when his 3 story home in the Hollywood Hills burned. He had been fighting a long battle with cancer. Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Cason.
He had a long career in television and movies. He was well known for his role as Vaughn Leland on "Dallas". He appeared on other soap operas, such as "Somerset" and "The Secret Storm". His last film was "The Air Up There", in 1994, as Father O'Hara.
Keith Prentice died - Sep. 27, 1992 (Morgan Collins, James Forsythe)
He died of of cancer in Kettering, OH at age 52. He did stage roles and founded the Theatre Under the Stars in Kettering, OH. He was "Larry" in the original Broadway cast of "Boys in the Band"in 1968.

Dan Ross died - Nov. 1, 1995 (Pen name - Marilyn Ross)
He was 82 at the time of his death. He wrote all of the Dark Shadows novels as well as the novelization of the movie "House of Dark Shadows". He was one of the most prolific paperback novelists of the 60's and 70's. He wrote on subjects ranging from westerns to agnosticism and world religion, under at least a dozen names, choosing "Marilyn" for his "gothics". There were 32 Dark Shadows novels in all.He wrote 356 novels, 600+ published stories, and at least 12 plays.

Florence Stanley died of a stroke at the age of 79. She is best known as Bernice Fish, the wife of Fish, on Barney Miller. Fish was played by Abe Vigoda, who also had roles on Dark Shadows.

He died of kidney cancer at age 58. He was always a friendly guest at the DS Festivals. He appeared in many TV series in the 60's, including "The Edge of Night", "The Twilight Zone" and the WWII dramas "Combat"and "Twelve O'Clock High". He was also in several movies, including "King Rat".
