Aelish as Mother

Aelish has shown us a new and interesting side to herself. She makes a great foster mom! So far she has "mothered" two dogs. The second dog is a little puppy that was surrendered to the Connecticut Humane Society. He, his mother and six siblings were brought in. The family that brought them said that they were found in an abandoned building near them. All of the puppies were very eager for human contact except for one little boy. He growled and hid, with his tail tucked under him. He is staying with us while we attempt to socialize him and make him less timid. He is also suffering from Kennel Cough so he is receiving medications.

He also has the very typical puppy habits, chewing, digging and pooping - and most not in the most appropriate places! We are enjoying the antics of this pup, and Aelish is enjoying being a mom again. Little Angel certainly follows her lead in whatever she does. Kind of fun to watch this little bundle of energy following her around like a little black lamb.

Aelish and Angel seem to enjoy playing with "mookies" unfortunately they tend to rip them to little bits, causing all the stuffing to end up all over the house! And leaving a major mess. After demolishing all the mookies, Angel then moved on to Bobby's bed - Bobby was not happy with this, he enjoys a nice nap in his round bed. So we had to get a new one for him.

Angel is gradually learning to be house broken, we usually only find one mess in the morning, both of us are hard to wake up! And occasionally he will leave a mess during the day. For a pup of 10-14 weeks, this is pretty good. I use to be able to say that he was helping me clean the living room rug, four square inches at a time.

We would love to keep him, and we may still. However, we are also open to finding him a home where the people will understand that this is a puppy with special needs. He needs lots of time socializing in safe situations, he needs to learn that most people are friendly and he doesn't need to be afraid. It is also possible that this timidity is chemically induced. There is a breeder who has mentioned to me about timid boxers having low normal thyroid function, but when placed on thyroid medication the timidity seems to disappear. So it is possible that all Angel will need is to have his medicine every day.
