REMARKS !
-5 Would indicate burial half way between two ajoining plots
000 Reported as having died on Johnson's Island, but the
grave
was note located. A number
of graves in the Confederate
Cemetery are marked " Unknown,
" and it is thought that they
are the graves of the particular
dead, as the number not
identified is practicallythe same
as the number of graves
marked unknown.
* Reuben Stout, Grave #87 was a Private in
the Union Army,
who was executed for desertion
and murder.
** Gabrial Turner, Private, Company D, 12th OVC who
died on
Feb 12, 1864 And William Dozer
Private, Company E, 78th OVI
who died on Mar. 23, 1865
are both reported as being buried
in the Cemetery. Both were
Union soldiers stationed on the
Island as guards.
*** A number of other soldiers both Confederate and Union
alike,
died on Johnson's Island.
However, their bodies were sent
elsewhere's for burial.

ONE
HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHTH O.V.I.
JOHNSON'S ISLAND, OHIO
The 128th OVI was organized at Columbus, Johnson's Island,
and Camp Cleveland, Ohio, from December 7, 1861 to January 8,
1864, to serve three years. Four companies A, B, C, and D of
the organization were originally know as the " Hoffman
Battalion," raised at different times in 1862 which, before
the time of forming the regiment, was under the command of a
lieutenant colonel and major. Six new companies were
mustered in at Camp Taylor between the 8th and the 15th of
January, 1864. The four old companies had been on duty at
Johnson's Island nearly all the time since their muster-in;
but had frequently furnished detachments for service
elsewhere, including a short and very active campaign in
pursuit of Rebel troops in West Virginia in 1862. Wood
county was represented in the 18th in Companies B, C, and D,
a few men serving from various parts of the county. Lieut.
George W. Hollenbeck, of Companies C and A respectively, was
from Perrysburg. The regiment was chiefly occupied at the
frontier posts of Johnson's Island and Sandusky, and its
service necessarily involves much of the military history of
those posts. It was mustered out at Camp Chase July 13, 1865
in accordance with orders from The War Department:
