ADAMS, ROBERT --------- Robert Adams, 89, of Southview Apartments, McAlisterville,
died Thursday afternoon, December
12, 1996, at his residence. He was born in East Salem July 19, 1907, a
son of the late John
and Elizabeth [Shelley] Adams. He was married to the former Lillian V.
Troup, who died May 7,
1983. He is survived by a daughter, Mildred Spade, McAlisterville RR1;
a son, Robert L.
Adams, Richfield RR1; a sister, Martha Snyder, Bellvue, OH; four grandchildren;
five great-
grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased
by three brothers,
Walter, Jerry and North, and three sisters, Cora Kelley, Mary Benner and
Emma Benner. He was
a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR1. He
retired in 1969 after
being employed in the spinning department of Viscose Corp., Lewistown,
for 42 years. After
retirement he tended the gas pumps at the Evendale Garage and visited nursing
homes and
assisted his elderly friends and neighbors. He helped dig the original
sewer and water lines
for McAlisterville. The funeral service was held Monday at St. John's United
Methodist
church, with Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment followed in the
church cemetery,

natural causes at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday, November
20, 1996 at his residence. He was born March 1923 at Fayette Township,
Juniata County the son
of the late Joseph F. and Sarah Ann [Harshberger] Auker. He married the
former Bernice
Elizabeth Willoughby November 17, 1942. They had just celebrated their
54th anniversary. In
addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Joseph F. Auker McClure
RR2, Rev. Gary L.
Auker, York, and Michael Lynn Auker, Mifflinburg RR5; three daughters,
Bonnie Jean Downer,
Middleburg RR4, Debra Ann Maneval, Mifflintown RR1, and Evelyn Susan Wilt,
Beaver Springs
RR1; grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased
by a sister, Pearl C.
Brubaker, in 1993. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren,
Bennerville. He attended
high school in Thompsontown and was a farmer and truck driver all of his
life. He farmed in
the Freeburg area until moving to his most recent farm in 1952. He was
a self-employed truck
driver until approximately 1973, when he started driving for Bickel Wood
Products, McClure,
retiring in 1988. The funeral service was held Friday at the Ronald
C. Sheaffer Funeral
Home, McAlisterville, with Pastors Liane Wagner and Kenneth C. Wagner officiating.
Interment
followed in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Mifflintown RR2.

daughter of the late William Frank and Minnie Mae [Dunn] Ehrenzeller. She
was preceded in
death by her husband, Guy M. Baker, in 1939. She is survived by a son,
Richard R. Baker of
Burnham, five grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also
preceded in death by son, Donald Guy Baker, September 3, 1983, and was
the last of her
immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and two
sisters. She had
been employed by Rae-Sel Dress Factory, Port Royal. She was a member of
Reedsville
Evangelical Lutheran Church. Graveside funeral services were held Thursday,
with Rev. Kenneth
Longfield officiating. Burial was in Little Valley Presbyterian Cemetery,

[Welshonse] Baughman,
formerly of Tuscarora Township, Juniata County. Also surviving are
three sons, Cliff E.
Baughman, New Bloomfield, Matthew W. Baughman, Ickesburg, and Frank L.
Baughman, Elliotsburg;
two brothers, David S. Baughman, Ickesburg, and James Baughman, Shermansdale;
four sisters,
Ruth Peck, East Waterford, Jean McKarchey, Port Royal, and Ann Wentz and
Goldie Roberts,
Eschol; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons.
He was a retired farmer
and was formerly employed by Capitol Products and Surnmerdale Laboratories.
He was a member
of Millerstown Moose and Newport Social Order of Owls. A funeral service

the David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with Rev. Harry Burgey officiating.

Beard. He married the
former Linda M. Miller in 1974. He graduated from Dallas [PA] High
School in 1969 and from
Penn State University in 1973. He was employed as a geologist for Woodward-Clyde
Co.,
Gaithersburg, MD. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member
of the Association of
Engineering Geologists. In addition to his wife and mother, be is
survived by two sons,
Andrew R. and Patrick J., both of Ijamsville; one brother, Alan Beard of
Franklin, MA; and
two sisters, Sheryl Robbins of Pittsfield, MA, and Mary Kuniski of Texas.
He was preceded in
death by one brother, Paul. The funeral service was held Monday at

she lived for the past month. Her husband, Ross C. Beck, died in 1972.
Retired, she had been
employed as a registered nurse in the Harrisburg area. She was a member
of Harrisburg
Hospital Nursing Alumni Association. She was a member of Grace United Methodist
Church,
Harrisburg, and its Women's Circle. Born February 16, 1905 at Church Hill,
Juniata County,
she was a daughter of David W. and Martha Belle Pannebaker Barton. Surviving
are a daughter,
Leoan B. LaMar of Montoursville; a brother, Charles Barton of Walnut, three
grandchildren,
David C. and Steven D. LaMar and Debra E. O'Donnell; two great-grandchildren,
Amanda Q., and
Gregory D. O'Donnell. She was predeceased by five brothers Furman, Chester,
James, Foster,
and David Barton. The funeral was held October 24 at Faith United Methodist
Church,

Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg, with Rev. Dr. Carl Schneider officiating.

BOLIG, ALVESTA MAE ---- Alvesta M. Bolig, 73, of Richfield died at 4:37
p.m., Monday, November 4, 1996 from multiple
injuries sustained in an automobile accident with a truck on Route 35,
Perry Township, Snyder
County. Death was instant. Miss Bolig was born September 9, 1923 in Juniata
County. She was
the daughter of the late William Jacob and Mabel Benner Bolig. She was
educated in the
Richfield schools. At the time of her death, Miss Bolig was employed as
a seamstress for
Richfield Shirt Factory, where she had been employed for 56 years. She
was a member of
Richfield United Methodist Church, Richfield, Richfield Ambulance League
and the American
Association of Retired Persons. She was well-known in the Richfield area
as a caregiver to
many people in need in her community. She truly was a "good samaritan".
Her leisure time was
well spent with enjoyment in television viewing. She is survived by many
nephews, nieces,
great-nephews and greatnieces. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Arthur Bolig; four
sisters, Alda Brubaker, Laura Lauver, Iva Shadel and Elsie B. Willow; and
two nephews. The
funeral-service was conducted Friday, November 8, from The George P. Garman
Funeral Home, Mt.
Pleasant Mills, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Almon D. Baird, officiating and
Rev. Dr. Jerry R.
O'Connell assisting. Interment was in Richfield Union Cemetery.

BOOK, EDMUND K. ------- Edmund K. Book, 69, of Port Royal RR1 died at
8:54 a.m. Monday, November 25, 1996 in the
emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. He was born March 21, 1927 in Erie,
PA, a son of the
late Edmund E. and Anna B. [Kell] Book. He is survived by his wife,
Norma P. [Moyer] Book,
whom he married August 19, 1949. Also surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. William H. [Patricia
K.] Stong, Honey Grove RR1; one son, Norman E. Book, Port Royal RR1; and
six grandchildren.
He was a self-employed farmer, retiring in 1988. He was a member
of Lower Tuscarora
Presbyterian Church, Academia, where he was a member of the Sunday school
and an ordained
elder. He was a 1945 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School.

BOTTS, RUTH ELIZABETH - Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Botts, 77, of HC 72, Mt.
Pleasant Mills, died at 1:00 a.m. Friday,
November 15 1996, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she
was admitted November 10
following a heart attack at her home. She had had bypass surgery
in 1982. Mrs. Botts was
born in Washington Township, Snyder County, December 30,1918, the daughter
of the late James
Cornelius and Mary Margaret [Rohrbach] Landis. She was married December
30, 1936 to John
Wallace "Wally" Botts, who preceded her in death August 14, 1993.
Mrs. Botts was educated in
the Snyder and Union county schools. She was a homemaker and mother
and loved to bake. Mrs.
Botts was Protestant by faith. She is survived by a son, Lee L. Botts,
Mt. Pleasant Mills
RR2; four daughters, Wilma C. Botts, at home, Verna M. Graybill, Halifax,
Darlene A. Steese,
Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2, and Connie 1. Henry, Middletown; one brother, Marlin
A. Landis,
Sunbury RR4; one sister, Mary Naomi Swank, Selinsgrove; nine grandchildren;
and eight great-
grandchildren. Mrs. Botts was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne L. Botts
and Eugene Botts;

Methodist Church,
Mifflin. He retired as a meat cutter for the former Dysinger's Meat Market,
Thompsontown RR1.

since October 26. Born November 19, 1910 in Delaware Township, he was the
son of the late
Harvey E. and Nettie Brown Brubaker. He was married to the former Keturah
Shelley, who
survives. Mr. Brubaker was educated in the East Salem school, Delaware
Township. He retired
in 1966 after an employment span of 25 years at Standard Steel, Burnham,
where he was a
welder. He was a member of Niemond's Independent Church, Richfield RR1.
In addition to his
wife, he is survived by two children, a son, Delbert E. "Shelley" Brubaker,
Richfield; a
daughter, Patricia L. Seid, Selinsgrove; a brother, Harvey B. Brubaker,
Mifflintown RR1; a
sister, Caroline Wenrick, Halifax; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brubaker
was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Oscar Brubaker; and
two sisters, Blanche

1996, at The Zendt Home, Richfield, where he had been a resident for two
years. He was born
January 22, 1906 in McAlisterville, the son of the late Ammon G. and Annie
[Musser] Brubaker.
He attended elementary school at Oakland Mills. In September 1929 he married
the former Elva
Kathryn Auker, who died October 1984. Surviving are seven children: Mrs.

Mifflintown RR1, Dale Brubaker, McAlisterville RR1; 25 grandchildren; 54
great-grandchildren;
two step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Brubaker,
and two sisters, Ruth
and Esther Brubaker. He was a farmer who did custom threshing throughout
the area and, 50
years ago, he became a pioneer in organic farming and a proponent of stewardship
toward the
earth. He was instrumental in advising others in this new concept. After
moving to Cocolamus,
he did only organic farming, operating a small grain milling operation
and health food store.
He was very active in the Mennonite Church, organizing the first Bible
school in the area and
promoting Christian education. The funeral was Saturday, November 9, at
Delaware Mennonite
Church, Thompsontown RR1, with Bishop Carl Graybill and Pastors David Weaver
and Stanley Wine
officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Ronald C. Sheaffer
Funeral Home,
McAlisterville, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be
made to a charity of the giver's choice.

She was
preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, She was employed at
American Viscose
Corp., Lewistown, for 42 years, retiring in 1972. She was a veteran of
World War II, having
served in the U.S. Army. She was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist
Church,
Lewistown and the Avisco 25-Year Club. Services were held Friday at Hoenstine
Funeral Home,
Inc., Lewistown, with Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar, officiating. Interment
was in Juniata

survived by a brother, Donald Spade, Millerstown; a sister, Phyllis Graham,

and numerous nieces and nephews. He had been, active in the Skills Program,
Mifflintown,
until shortly after entering Berry's Care Center June 24, 1994. He will
always be remembered
in McAlisterville for his love of playing baseball. The funeral service

University. She was a teacher for 26 years in the Bensalem Township schools,
Bucks County.
After her retirement she conducted a small studio for piano students in
Levittown. She was a
member of Centre Lutheran Church, Levittown American Association of University
Women and the

Earnest who preceded her in death June 11, 1980. Mrs. Earnest was educated
in the Juniata
County rural schools. She was a homemaker and mother who enjoyed gardening,
crocheting and
trout fishing in the family pond. She was a member of St.Matthew's Lutheran
Church,
Millerstown RR1, Millerstown Ambulance League and Women of the Moose, Chapter
No. 21,
Millerstown. Surviving are three sons, John C. Earnest, Newport RR1, Willard
P. Earnest,
Elliottsburg RR1 and Steve A. Earnest, at home; one daughter, Betty J.
Cassell, at home; one
sister, Kathryn Troutman, Sunbury; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs.
Earnest was preceded in death by one daughter, Katheryn M. Rheam, March
28, 1981, and three

was retired from the former Capitol Products, Mechanicsburg, and was an
avid gardener,
supplying fresh produce to many customers. He was a member of the
Tuscarora Valley High
School Class of 1945 and a member of Tuscarora Church of the Brethren.

Sunday, October 13, 1996, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where
he had been
hospitalized since September 20, 1996. Mr. Forrey had been a resident of
The Zendt Home,
Richfield, for the past four years. Born at Snyder County September 11,
1910, he was the son
of the late Wilson and Annie Arndt Forrey. Mr. Forrey attended Gordon's
Grammar School at
Snyder County. His entire life he worked as a construction worker. He was
Methodist by faith.
He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of hunting and fishing. He spent
a great deal of time
reading, especially books on outdoors and hunting. He was well-known for
his pencil sketches
of wildlife. Surviving are three children, Russell N. Ferry of Richfield
RR1, Judy A. Walter,
Middleburg, and Leona M. Kratzer, LiverpooI RR1; six grandchildren; and
three great-
grandchildren. Mr. Forrey was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy
Hile, in 1989, and by
one brother, Oscar Ferry. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday,

father of the groom, officiating. Mrs. Fuhrman was a member of Cornerstone
Community Church,
Mifflintown RR2. Surviving, besides her husband of 43 years, is a
son, Eugene A. Fuhrman Jr.
of Gardners, PA. She was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Sue Rounds, who
died June 30, 1994,
and a brother, John J. Fisher, who died in October 1974. Funeral

grandson. He was a member of Richfield Mennonite Church. He was also a
former 4-H leader and
a member of Richfield Ambulance Association. He attended Juniata County
schools including
Richfield, Cocolamus and East Juniata High School. He was employed by Selinsgrove
Center for
six years, Hoffman Brothers Lumber for two years, and Sheaffer Lumber Company
for ten years.
He was also self-employed as a pallet manufacturer, farmer and sawmiller
until his death.
Services were held Monday at Richfield Mennonite Church with Pastor Jerry
R. O'Connell
officiating. Interment was in Richfield Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions

patient since October 3. Born March 11, 1924, she was the daughter of the
late Eugene
and Anna Troup Willow. She was married September 25, 1947 to John R. Gregory,
who
preceded her in death August 13, 1968. Mrs. Gregory attended Banks Grammar
School,
Juniata county. She was a homemaker and mother. She attended New Life Assembly
of God
Church, Mifflintown RR4. She was a member of Richfield Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Gregory
enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and children. She
is survived by
six children, Ralph E. Gregory, York, Reno L. Gregory, Richfield RR1, Joan
E. Walborn,
Newport, Darlene A. Gregory, Muncy, and Beatrice V. Strawser and Karen
L. Gregory, both

and
12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, John Rafiel

He attended
Delaware High School, Delaware Township, Juniata County. He was a lifelong
dairy farmer,
operating his own farm near East Salem. He was a member of St. John's
United Methodist
Church, Cocolamus, the American Jersey Cattle Club and Walker Grange, Mexico.
He was a
township supervisor for Delaware Township for 18 years. Early in
life he was a milk truck
driver for Sunny Dale Farms, Elliottsburg, for over 20 years. The

St. John's United Methodist Church, with Revs. Ronald E. Landis and Richard
Burchfield
officiating. Interment followed in the East Salem Cemetery, East Salem.

the U.S. Army National Guard Unit, Lewistown, from 1956-1964 and was a
past member of the
Sheriff's Association. He was employed as a plumber with David W. Goss
Plumbing and Heating,
Lewistown and later with Miller Plumbing and Heating, Lewistown, before
becoming office
manager for Arch Rock Paving and Construction, Mifflin County, prior to
retiring on
disability. He was a 1956 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown.
Services will
be held at 12:00 noon Thursday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home,

at Lewistown Hospital. He was born June 16, 1906 in Phillips, ME, a son
of the late Jordan
and Shirley [Rice] Holt. His wife, the former Elizabeth H. Howell, whom
he married June 5,
1930, survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Shirley E. Kinsey, Laporte,
PA, and Marcia
H. Thompson, McAlisterville; a brother, Rev. Ellis J. Holt, Lamoine, ME;
seven grandchildren;
and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles
S. Holt. He
served four years, enlisted in the United States Navy, then entered Annapolis
Naval Academy,
graduating in 1930 with a degree in marine engineering. He was employed
for 30 years with
Bethlehem Steel Corp., Quincy, MA, as a design engineer, and then seven
years as senior
design engineer with General Dynamics Technical Division, Groton, CT, retiring
in 1971. He
moved to McAlisterville in 1972. He was a member of the United Presbyterian
Church, Mexico,
where he was an elder and clerk of Session and sang in the choir. He was
a past member of
First Parish Church, Pembroke, MA, where he also was an elder and choir
member. He was a
member of the Society of Marine Engineers, Juniata County Chorus, Lewistown
Art League and
the Juniata County Historical Society. He loved fishing. A memorial service
will be conducted
at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21 at the United Presbyterian Church,
Mexico, with Rev.
Richard E. Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek
Presbyterian Cemetery,

Holzwarth Jr. They observed their 53rd anniversary September 5. Born
in Mifffintown, she was
a daughter of the late Roy E. and Anna Varner Wingate. Mrs. Holzwarth was
a retired nurse who
had worked in the Mayo Clinic operating room, Rochester, MN, and for Lancaster
General
Hospital. She was retired from Whitehall Convalescent Home. She was
a 1940 graduate of
Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing, having graduated in 1937
from Mifffintown High
School. Mrs. Holzwarth was a member of St. Peter's United Church
of Christ, Lancaster. She
also bowled with the Lady Elks. Surviving besides her husband are two sons,
Joseph C. III of
Denver and John W. of Ohio; a sister, Irene Suter of Lebanon; a brother,
Daniel E. Wingate of
the Masonic Homes; and four grandchildren. The funeral was held from

member of Charity Lodge No. 144, Lewisburg, Williamsport Consistory and
Zembo Temple,

Mazeppa, Union County, with

KNOUSE, MARLIN WILLIAM - Marlin William "Bill" Knouse, 75, of Newport,
died at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 1996,
at Lebanon Veterans Hospital, Lebanon, where he was admitted August 18,
1996. Born August
31, 1921 at Perry Valley [Millerstown RR1], Perry County, he was the son
of the late William
Roy and Jennie Pearl [Meiser] Knouse. December 31, 1945, he married the
former Pauline Faye
Miller, who survives. Mr. Knouse attended Liverpool High School. He was
inducted into the
U.S. Army September 26, 1942 at New Cumberland, serving during WWII in
the European theatre
as a technician 4th grade with the 3524 Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance
Company,
earning the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five Bronze
Stars. He was
honorably discharged from the service November 10, 1945. Mr. Knouse was
first employed by
the former Blue Mountain Construction firm, Berks County, for 25 years.
He then worked for
Valley Quarries Chambersburg, until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Knouse
then worked on a part
time basis for Hempt Brothers, Camp Hill, until 1991. He was a heavy equipment
operator with
all companies. He was a member of St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ
Church, Mt.
Pleasant Mills RR2. He was a life member of the Shur-Shot Gun Club, Potter
County.
Additional memberships included American Legion Post No. 364, Liverpool,
Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post No. 5049, Millerstown, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 925, Millerstown,
Oriental
Valley Sportsmen's Association and Newport Fire Company and Ambulance League.
Mr. Knouse was
a great outdoorsman, hunting in Potter and Perry counties and fishing in
Little Buffalo
Creek, Perry County. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by one daughter,
Sandra L.
Glace, Liverpool RR2; a half-brother, Larry Knouse of Richfield RR1; a

F. [Berkheimer] Kratzer. His wife, Caroline L. Drass, whom he married December
10, 1954 in
Maryland, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Robert E. Kratzer Jr.,
Mifflintown, Gary R.
Kratzer, Branchburg, NJ, Mark D. Kratzer Roaring Spring, and Brian D. Kratzer,
Huntingdon;
brother and sister, Richard A. Kratzer, Manassas, VA, and JoAnn Prysi,

grandchildren. He was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and
a veteran of the U.S. Air
Force. He was retired from Ford Motor Company, where he worked as
a tool designer. He was a
member of Masonic Lodge, Woodbridge, NJ, the Soil Conservation District,
Mifflintown, the
Board of Directors of Imperial Bonita Estates, where he also served as
finance officer, and
the Juniata Sewage Committee, where he served as as Chairman of the Board.

Liverpool. He was a
member of Stony Run Mission Church, Richfield RR1, and was a member of
the singing group, The
Joyful Sound. In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by one
son and two
daughters, Michael S. Kuhn of Richfield RR1, Heather R. Kuhn of Richfield
and Samantha Jo
Kuhn, at home; one brother, Raymond Kuhn, of Allentown; two sisters, Tonya
Snyder of
Richfield and Angela Yoder of Richfield; and his paternal grandfather,

Lewistown. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Fowler,

schools, McAlisterville. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, operating
his own farm in Fermanagh
Township, Juniata County, until his retirement in 1993. He had also been
a seed corn and
fertilizer dealer and earlier in life had hauled milk for Sheffield Farms.

Harnish and Minister Marvin Freed officiating. Interment followed in Lauver's

he was a son of the late Lewis and Amelia [Wieand] Leach. His wife, Alberta

Rev. Kerry Aucker officiating. Interment will be in Thompsontown Lutheran
Cemetery. There
will be no public viewing. However, friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until
the time of
services Wednesday at the church. The family will provide all funeral flowers.

late Clarence Leister.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. "Jeanne" [Bratton] Leister, whom
he married
September 14, 1968. Also surviving are two daughters, Tammy M. Leister
and Tricia R. Leister,
both of Mifflin; one son, Robert S. Leister, Mifflin; one sister, Mrs.

where she had
been a resident for one week. She was born in McAlisterville December
16, 1894, a daughter
of the late W. North and Jennie [Tennis] Spitler. April 7, 1915 she
married Lehman I.
Leister, who died March 29, 1977. She is survived by four sons, W.
Kenneth Leister,
Harrisburg, Herman M. Leister, Yazoo City, MS, Edwin M. Leister, Bel Air,
MD, and Robert L.
Leister, Palmetto, FL; one daughter, Marion A. Shultz, Chambersburg; 11
grandchildren; and 19
greatgrandchildren; and four great-greatgrandchildren. She was a
member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, McAlisterville and a former member of the Community Club and senior
citizens center,
McAlisterville. She attended Evendale Elementary School. She was
a homemaker her entire life
and loved the outdoors. She had moved from McAlisterville to live
with her son Ken in 1991.

LEITZEL, ELIZABETH FERN - Elizabeth F. Leitzel, 76, of Richfield RR1,
died at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 1996,
at Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg, where she was admitted Monday, September
30. Mrs.
Leitzel had been in failing health for several years. Born July 15, 1920
in Monroe
Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Harry P. and
Mary Graybill
Kratzer. September 6, 1941, she married Roy Edward Leitzel, who survives.
She was educated
at Stahl's Grammar Schoolhouse and graduated in 1939 from Freeburg High
School. During the
early years of her marriage, Mrs. Leitzel worked at Shellenberger Shirt
Factory, Richfield.
She was largely a homemaker and mother. Mrs. Leitzel wag a member of Richfield
Mennonite
Church and Richfield Ambulance League. She was, an accomplished quilter
and loved to read.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Stanley A. Leitzel,
Lebanon, and
Warren G. Leitzel, Richfield RR1; five daughters, Eunice A. Leister and
Ella Jane Varner,
both of McAlisterville RR2, Eleanor F. Wochley, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2,
Juniata M. Hess,
Freeburg, and Nancy L. Wagner, Lykens; four brothers, Lloyd Kratzer, Cocolamus,
Leon
Kratzer, Richfield, Glenn Kratzer, Beavertown, and John Kratzer, Harleton;

LONG, KEITH E. -------- Keith E. "Round Man" Long, 52, of Liverpool,
was fatally stricken with heart attack at his
place of employment Wednesday morning, October 23, 1996 and died at Polyclinic
Medical
Center, Harrisburg. He had been hospitalized in early July for treatment
of an arrythmia and
had been back at work for the past three months. Born in Harrisburg, Dauphin
County, December
18, 1943, he was the son of Kenneth S. Long, Liverpool, and the late Janet
Ulsh Long, who
preceded her son in death December 18, 1993. Mr. Long graduated from Greenwood
High School in
1961. At the time of his death he was the Liverpool Borough manager and
was in charge of
running the borough's sewer and water plants. Mr. Long attended Liverpool
United Methodist
Church and was a member of Liverpool Fire Co. and Ambulance League. He
was a social member of
American Legion, Post No. 364, Liverpool. He was an avid reader and also
spent much time
riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He is survived by two brothers,
Richard W. Long,
Newport, and Glenn U. Long, Gulf Port, MS; a companion, with whom he made
his home, Teresa
Klinger; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted
Sunday from the
George P. Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with Rev. Charles T. Tressler

Mifflintown, a daughter of the late John and Anna Warner. Her husband,
Melvin Neidig,
preceded her in death November 20, 1988. She is survived by two sons,

and four great-
grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded
in death by one
brother, John Warner, and one sister, Iva Warner. She was a member of Messiah

Mifflintown. In earlier life she was employed at the A&P grocery store
before working at Dick
Harry's Grocery Market and retiring in 1980 from the IGA Foodliner, all

He was born
January 19, 1908 in Mifflin, a son of the late Joseph E. and Edith [Meloy]
Niemond. He was
the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by one
brother, John S.
Niemond and one sister, Ella Niemond. He was a veteran of the United
States Navy, having
served in World War 11. He was employed by the former Charles G.
Knerr Radio, Harrisburg,
from 1950 until 1963, when it became Pierce-Phillips Radio, from which
he retired in 1973.
He was a 1925 graduate of Mifflintown High School and a member er of Messiah
Lutheran Church,
Mifflintown. The funeral service was held Friday at Guss Funeral
Home, Mifflintown with Rev.
Claude Baublitz officiating Interment was in Westminister Presbyterian

ROBINSON, STUART BRUCE - Stuart Bruce Robinson, 77, of Spruce Head,
ME, died unexpectedly September 9, 1996 at
Penobscott Bay Medical Center, Rockport, ME, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Robinson was
born in Port Royal March 21, 1919, a son of the late Robert Bruce and Frances
Graham
Robinson. His, first wife preceded him in death in 1977. He is survived
by his present wife,
Helen Fischer of Melbourne, Australia; a son, Scott, of Falston, MD; a
daughter, Robin
Medina of Bel Air, MD; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother,
William
Robinson, and a sister, Jessie Reagan, both of Port Royal, and a sister,
Ann Goffe, of Green
Valley, AZ. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Mr.
Robinson was a
1936 graduate of Port Royal High School and the Pennsylvania Nautical School
Ship Annapolis,
Philadelphia, where he attained the rank of second lieutenant in the Merchant
Marines. Later
"Robbie," as he was affectionately known, joined Pan American Airways and
navigated the
original Yankee Clippers on their Atlantic trips to Europe and Africa.
He flew with ARAMCO
and later worked as an aviation exam specialist with the Federal Aviation
Agency in Oklahoma
City, OK, for 20 years, from 1960 to 1980. He retired to Maine in 1980.
Mr. Robinson was an
active member of the Rockland Rotary Club, the Toast Masters and Boy Scouts
of America. A
memorial service was held at Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Academia,
of which he
was a member. Burial was at the convenience of the family.

grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by three brothers, Orlen, Chester and Wilmer Shank. He
worked as a herdsman

McAlisterville, in 1930 and from Elizabethtown College in 1934, earning

in business education. In 1974, she retired from Harrisburg Steelton-Highspire
Technical
School after three years as a business teacher. She had previously
taught at Central
Pennsylvania Business School, Harrisburg and Shippensburg High School.
She had also been a
former employee of the federal government. She was a member of First
Church of the Brethren,
Harrisburg, where she was a past deaconess and served as children's director
for 15 years.
She was also a member of the state and local teacher's associations. Services
will be held at
11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Ronald C . Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall
Street,
McAlisterville, with Rev. Irvin Heishman officiating. Interment will be
in Goodwill Cemetery,

nurse in Juniata
County and surrounding areas. She was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian

Juniata Saddle Horse
Association and the Licensed Practical Nurse Association. Private funeral

Born October 20, 1923, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Frederick
L. and Beatrice L.

E. Sieber, McAlisterville, and Roger W. Sieber, Harrisburg. He was a 1941
graduate of Fayette
High School, McAlisterville. He attended Thompson Business College, Harrisburg,
in 1942 and
graduated in 1951 from Maryville College, Tennessee, with a major in English
and a minor in
music. He taught English literature in a private school in Media in 1951
and was later
employed for many years as a bookkeeper and accountant with a law firm
in New York. He served
with the U.S. Army, 1374th EPD Co. during World War II from 1943 to 1945,
with duty in France
and Germany. He was also an accomplished pianist and composed music for
children's shows
performed in Maine by a New York summer stock theatre group. He was a member
of Trinity
Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, where he played the piano and sang in
the choir. He also
sang with the Richfield Community Christmas Cantata. He was an active member
of Fayette High
School Alumni Association and was a collector of old movies, old sheet
music and Terry and
the Pirates comics. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity
Lutheran Church,
McAlisterville, with Rev. James Park Bricker officiating. Interment will
be in Hillside

grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Earl, Clyde and
Charles and sisters
Evelyn Hartzell and Doris Snyder. He attended Cross Roads School,
Maze, and studied for the
ministry at Indiana University, Indiana, PA. He served in the U.S.
Army in 1944-1945, with
duty in the South Pacific. He served in the Evangelical United Brethren
and United Methodist
ministry, in Pennsylvania, since 1959, beginning in Cherry Tree, Clearfield
County. In 1965
he moved to Garrett and in 1969 to Myersdale, both in Somerset County.
He served in
Thompsontown from 1977 until his retirement in 1987. He was instrumental
in the formation and
building of two churches in Juniata County. He was a member of the Evangelical
United
Brethren Conference and later the United Methodist Conference. From
1952 to 1959 he was
employed by Thompson's Jet Plant. The funeral service will be at
10:30 a.m. Thursday,
December 5, at Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR1 [Cocolamus],
with Revs.
Ronald E. Landis and C. Richard Beach officiating. Interment will follow
in Union Memorial

Lewistown Hospital. She was born in Richfield November 5, 1921, the daughter
of the late
Wilson and Maude [Lehman] Clotfelter. She married Paul E. Strawser
in 1941. She was a
retired seamstress for the Shellenberger Shirt Factory in Richfield.
She was a member of the
Evangelical Methodist Church in Richfield. In addition to her husband,
she is survived by one
son, Stanley E. Strawser of McAlisterville RR1; two grandchildren; and
two great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter;
nine sisters, Sadie
Renninger, Mary Stroup, Jane Varner, Beulah Hockenbrock, Esther Reichenbach,
Mildred Snyder,
Beatrice Clotfelter, Katie Clotfelter and Ruth Clotfelter; and one half-brother,
Norman
Clotfelter. The funeral service was held Sunday at the Evangelical
Methodist Church in
Richfield, with Rev. Kenneth E. Walter officiating. Burial was in the Evangelical
Methodist
Cemetery, Richfield. Funeral arrangements were made by the George

in World War II.

Restaurant,
McVeytown, since July 17, 1983. She was a member of Atkinson Mills United
Methodist Church,
the Ladies Bible Class, served on the administrative board, was an assistant
teacher in the
nursery class of the church, was treasurer of United Methodist Women, served
on the Flower
Committee of the church for many, years, was a 4-H leader for 25 years,
was a member of
Newton-Wayne Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and did volunteer work for McVeytown
Senior Citizens
Center. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Atkinson Mills
United Methodist
Church, with Rev. William Griffith Jr. officiating. Interment will be in

at his residence. He was born in Thompsontown September 24, 1919, the son
of the late Walter
and Ida [Swanger] Thompson. He married the former Esther L. Arnold September
28, 1940. He
served in the United States Army during World War II. He was formerly employed
by Conrail in
Enola and was last employed by the United States Postal Service, Harrisburg.
He was a member
of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Liverpool, Liverpool Lions
Club and the
Liverpool Fire Company and Ambulance League. In addition to his wife, he
is survived by two
sons and one daughter, David W. Thompson of Liverpool John R. Thompson
of Liverpool and Linda
J. Russell of Carlisle; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one
step-grandchild;
three step-great-grandchildren; and one brother and two sisters, Wayne

WATTS, HUGH CURRAN ---- Hugh C. Watts, 79, of Bridgeton, NJ, died Saturday
evening, December 14, 1996, at the
Bridgeton Nursing Center. He had been in declining health for the past
few months and a
resident of the nursing home for the last four weeks. The husband of Georgiann
G. [Mixner]
Watts, he was born in McAlisterville, the son of the late Samuel and Annie
Thompson Watts. He
was raised in McAlisterville and was a 1934 graduate of McAlisterville
High School. Mr. Watts
matriculated at Penn $tate University and received his bachelor's degree
in 1938. While at
Penn State he was a member of the ROTC program and served as a major or
in the U.S. Army from
1941 until 1946. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves until
being discharged in
1977 as a colonel. He received his master's degree in agronomy at the University
of Delaware
in 1970. Following his discharge from the Army he worked for U.S. Soil
Conservation Service.
For many years he worked in California and in 1960 moved to Woodstown,
NJ, and worked in the
Salem County office as a supervisor. In 1969 he moved to Massachusetts,
where he also worked
for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service until retiring in 1977. Following
his retirement he
lived in Florida and also for 13 years in North Carolina before moving
to Bridgeton 16 months
ago. Mr. Watts was a member of Deerfield Presbyterian Church and the Kiwanis
Club in North
Carolina. In addition to his wife, he is survived by twin daughters, Suellen
J. Edgar of
Redlands, CA, and Patricia Christine Medon of Monroe, LA; one son, H. Andrew
Watts of
Sarasota, FL; one stepdaughter, Gladys L. Booz of Hopewell Township, NJ;
two stepsons, Carl
E. Swenlin of Redlands, CA, and Frank N. Gallaher of Marina, CA; one sister,
Jane W. McMillan
of Loysville; and three brothers, Samuel T. Watts of Pittsburgh, Robert

Academy, a 1930 graduate
of Franklin and Marshall College, and a 1934 graduate of Dickinson School
of Law. He was a
member of Juniata County Bar Association and practiced law for 46 years
in Juniata County.
Previously he practiced law in Harrisburg for two years. He was district
attorney of
Juniata County for two consecutive terms from 1940 to 1948. He was solicitor
of Juniata
County for 16 years. He served on the board of directors of Russell
National Bank [Omega
Bank] from 1964 until 1989. He was chairman of the board from 1969 until
1989. He also served
as chairman of the board of trustees of Lewistown Hospital. He was
a member of Union Lodge
No. 324 Free & Accepted Masons, Mifflintown, and had served as worshipful
master of the lodge
in 1947. He was also active in Mifflintown Lions Club, Aldersgate
United Methodist Church,
Mifflintown and Juniata Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

office. He was a member of Bucknell Alumni Association, Pennsylvania State
Education
Association, National Association of Retired Teachers and the Humane Society
of Harrisburg.
Surviving are his wife, E. "Ebie" Ulsh Wesneski, and several nieces and
nephews. Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral
Chapel of St.
Patrick. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Blossburg, Thursday at
1:00 p.m. Visitation
will be from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Neumyer Funeral Home Inc.,

WETZEL, FRED ISAAC ---- Fred I. Wetzel, 78, of Mt. Pleasant Mills RRI,
died at 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 1996 at
his residence. He was under the care of a physician for two months prior
to his death. Born
September 24, 1918 at Beavertown, Snyder County, he was the son of the
late F. Marion Sr. and
Curl Ellen [Mattern] Wetzel. On April 12, 1941, he married the former
Marian A. Smith, who
preceded him in death, December 19, 1987. Mr. Wetzel was educated
at the Beaver Vocational
School, Beaver Springs, where he took an interest in the community band
and was active in its
activities, playing the French horn. Early in his adult life, he
was employed at Mifflinburg
Textiles, Mifflinburg. He then engaged in farming, and at the time of his
death he still
remained active in that endeavor. A member of Botschafts-Grubb's
Lutheran Church, Port
Trevorton RR1, Mr. Wetzel was secretary of the Sunday school for several
years. He was also
on the cemetery board and was a member of the former men's chorus of the
church. He served on
the Freeburg-Washington Township School Board, as a member of the Pennsylvania
Farmers
Association of Snyder County and the soil conservation, where he served
as a director of the
Snyder County area. He was a former Judge of Elections for Washington
Township for many
years, and was a member of Fremont and Port Trevorton fire companies.
He is survived by a
son, Scott A. Wetzel, Canon Air Force Base, Clovis, NM; two daughters,
Patricia A. Freed,
Bridgeport, and Connie L. Snyder, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR1; one brother,
Donald M. Wetzel,
Mifflinburg RR5; six grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Also surviving is a
companion, with whom he made his home, Ruth Miller. He was preceded in
death by a son, Dennis
Wetzel; a granddaughter, Denise; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth, in 1995;
two brothers,
John P. Wetzel and Norman L. Wetzel; and three sisters, Grace W. Yerger,
Gladys W. Norman and
Charlotte M. Keister Norman. The funeral service was conducted Saturday,
November 16 from
Botschafts-Grubb's Lutheran Church, with his pastor, Rev. David K. Louder,
officiating.
Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown. The George P. Garman
Funeral Home, Mt.
Pleasant Mills, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions

WILLOW, NORMAN S. ----- Norman S. "Lightning" Willow, 73, of Liverpool
RR1, Liverpool township, died at 11:07 a.m.
Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, where
he was admitted
December 12, 1996. Born February 21, 1923, he was the son of the late Floyd
E. and Mildred
Snyder Willow. August 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former
Caroline Brookhart,
who survives. His death breaks a marital union of 49 years. Mr. Willow
was educated in the
Snyder County rural schools. He was self-employed, first as a farmer, then
as a truck farmer,
and for a period of over 30 years he owned and operated Willow's Used Cars
at Liverpool RR1.
He loved repairing cars, as he was always mechanically inclined. He was
Protestant by faith
and was a member of Liverpool Fire Co. and Ambulance League and the American
Association of
Retired Persons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Harry
E. Willow,
Liverpool RR1; one daughter, Kathy E. Buffington, Penbrook, PA; two granddaughters;
one
great-grandson; one brother, Donald Willow, Liverpool RR2; and two sisters,
Jerene Foltz,
Pine Grove Mills, and Elsie Witmer, Harrisburg. A memorial service was
held Sunday from St.
Matthew's Lutheran Church, Millerstown RR1, with Rev. Paul W. Case officiating,
Interment
was in the adjoining church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made

WITMER, CLARENCE FRANKLIN - Clarence Franklin "Jack" Witmer, 79, of
Freeburg, died Saturday, October 26, 1996 at 8:40
a.m. at Penn Lutheran Village Nursing Home, Selinsgrove, where he had been
admitted
October 23. He had been under a physicians care for the greater part of
5 1/2 years. Born
December 19, 1916 at Pillow, Dauphin County, he was the son of the late
Clair E. and
Annie [Smeltz] Witmer. December 25, 1941, he married the former Dorothy
L. Miller, who
survives. Mr. Witmer was educated in the Pillow rural schools. He enlisted
in the U.S.
Navy and served in the Philippines during WWII as a Motor Machinist 1st
class in Seabees
Battalion No. 115. Adept in mechanical abilities, upon his honorable discharge
from
military duties, he was co-owner and manager of Witmer's and Aurand Motors,
Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR1. This business thrived from 1951 to 1963. He then was a truck
driver for
several years, being self-employed. Mr. Witmer retired in 1975 from New
Penn trucking
Co., Milton, as a truck driver. He was Protestant by faith. He was a charter
and life
member of Freeburg Fire Company; a member of American Legion Post No. 0957,
New Berlin;
International Brotherhood of Teamsters; the WWII Seabees; Medic60, Evangelical
Community
Hospital, Lewisburg; Dauntless Hook and Ladder Fire Co. Ambulance League,
Selinsgrove;
the American Association of Retired Persons; and the Renova Sportsman's
Club. He was
well-known in the area as a master mechanic and relaxation time was spent
gardening,
especially floral gardening. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by
two children,
Larry E. Witmer, at home, and Gloria J. Bucher, Freeburg; one sister, Hattie
Headdings,
Pillow; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in
death by two
sons, Clair W. Witmer, in 1966, and Gary E. Witmer, at birth, in 1950;
two brothers, Ray
and Edwin Witmer; and by one sister, Florence Schreffler. The funeral service
was
conducted Tuesday from the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant
Mills, with Pastor
Enos M. Shelley officiating. Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery, Freeburg.
