Born October 5, 1909 in Reedsville, she was a daughter of the late Cyrus
B. and Ellen S.
[Spade] Swartz. Her first husband, Earl Wilson Forry, died in March of
1958. Her second
husband, Lewis Arnold, died in December of 1973. Surviving are: children,
Kenneth Forry, Meda
Nipple Convalescent Home, Thompsontown RR1, Eugene Forry, Port Royal, Mabel
Goodling,
McAlisterville, Sarah Stailey, Liverpool; a half-sister, Ruth Dobbins,
Liverpool; 15
grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by two sons, Lawrence and Edwin Forry, five brothers, George, John,
Edward, Earl and
Chester Swartz and four sisters, Irene Huhns, Mary Foose, Cora Fry and
Thelma Varner. She
attended Liberty Elementary School, McAlisterville RR and was a member
of Otterbein United
Methodist Church, East Salem. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Services
will be held at
1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall
Street,
McAlisterville, with Revs. Terry A. Sheldon and Elwood O. Johnson officiating.
Interment will

Centre Lutheran Church, Mifflintown RR2, where she had served as organist
for many years and
bad taught the Women's Bible Sunday School Class. She was also a member
of Centre Women of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. She was past secretary
of the Women's Christian
Temperance Union and was a member of the Juniata County Retired Teacher's
Association. She
was an elementary school teacher for Juniata County School District, having
taught at Flint
School and Locust Run School, which were both one-room schools, before
retiring from Walker
Elementary School. Services were held Saturday at Centre Lutheran Church,
Mifflintown RR2,
with Rev. Kerry Aucker officiating. Interment was in Westminster Presbyterian
Cemetery,
Mifflintown. Brown Funeral Home, Mifflintown, was in charge of arrangements.

Sunday, October 20, 1996, at Lewistown Hospital. She was born October 27,
1926 to the late
Ira D. and Stella [Miller] Forry of Millerstown. She was married January
18, 1947 to Robert
K. Bassler. She was employed as a seamstress by East Salem Shirt Manufacturing
from 1966
until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of Turkey Valley United
Methodist Church,
Millerstown RR2, and was a volunteer for the Turkey Valley Care and Share
Ministry. She also
loved to garden and sew and was an excellent cook, especially of pies and
whoopie pies. In
addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Shirley A.
Lyter, Thompsontown,
Nancy I. Troutman, Cocolamus and Tracy L. Hood, Millerstown; two sons,
Kenneth R. Bassler and
Delmar L. Bassler Sr., both of McAlisterville; three brothers, Norman Forry
of
McAlisterville, Linus Forry, McAlisterville, and Ivan Forry of Florida;
one sister, Evelyn
Bassler, Thompsontown; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The
funeral service
will be Wednesday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral
Home Chapel,
McAlisterville, with Rev. Sal Buonocore officiating. Interment will follow

He was first
employed by Long's Feed Mill, Liverpool and later for 31 years as a laborer
at E.C.
Freed & Son Feed Mill. He then worked as a meter reader for Liverpool
Borough Sewer
Treatment Plant, retiring due to disability. He enjoyed hunting when his
health
permitted. He was a former member of Liverpool United Methodist Church,
Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post No. 5640, Middleburg and Richfield and Middleburg senior
citizens
organizations. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the George
P. Garman
Funeral Home Inc., 606 N. Front Street, Liverpool, with Rev. Charles T.

retired from Lyon Fashions, McAlisterville. Earlier in life she worked
in garment factories
in East Salem, Liverpool, Millerstown and Thompsontown. She also worked
at the McAlisterville
Cannery. She made knotted comforts. She was a member of Turkey Valley United
Methodist
Church, Millerstown RR2, and was very active at the McAlisterville Senior
Citizens Center.
She enjoyed traveling and ceramic painting. Services were held Monday at
the Ronald C.
Sheaffer Funeral Home, McAlisterville, with Rev. Salvatore E. Buonocore
officiating.

1997 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born May 9, 1916 in
Juniata County, she
was a daughter of the late Laurence and Millie [Mumper] Campbell. Her husband,
Bruce F.
Cryst, whom she married December 9, 1939, died April 10, 1979. Surviving
are: children, Bruce
F. Cryst Jr., Barboursville, VA, Melvin E. Cryst, Shamokin Dam, Aldine
Bilger, Lewistown,
Beverly Burns, Shermansdale; a brother, Clyde Campbell, Lewistown; nine
grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, John Cryst and
a daughter, Patty Ann
Cryst, both in infancy, four brothers, Charles Campbell, David Campbell,
Milton Campbell and
Franklin Campbell and three sisters, Laura Arnold, Margaret Baker and Mary
Goss. She had
worked at American Viscose Corp., Lewistown, and retired in 1977 from the
Selinsgrove Center,
where she was a patient care aide. She was a member of Emmanuel United
Methodist Church,
Mount Pleasant Mills, and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Services were held
Tuesday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, with
Rev. Jack E. Landis
officiating. Interment was in Lind Memorial Methodist Episcopal Cemetery,
Lewistown, Hummel
Funeral Home, Middleburg, was in charge of arrangements.

1997 at Lewistown Hospital. He was born August 6, 1921. in Turbett Township,

a son of Fay M. [Hockenberry] Dalton, Port Royal RR2, and the late Samuel
F. Dalton. He was a
member of Matamoras United Methodist Church, Port Royal, and a lifetime
member of the Juniata
Emergency Team. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother,
John W. Dalton, Port
Royal RR3; and two sisters, Esther Horning, Hornbrook, CA, and Betty Klase,
Port Royal RR2.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Shelley Dalton, and a sister, Mabel
Whistler. Funeral
services were held Friday from Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with, Rev.
Frank Swartz
officiating. Interment was in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Memorial

DAVIS, NORMAN SMITH --- Norman Smith Davis, 74, of Spring Run, PA, died
Wednesday afternoon, November 5, 1997 at
Chambersburg Hospital. He was born March 3, 1923 at Mifflintown, a son
of the late Neil and
Sadie Smith Davis. He was a member of Amberson United Methodist Church
and McCartney Post
232, American Legion, at Dry Run. He was a veteran of World War II, serving
with the U.S.
Army Air Force. He was retired from Letterkenny Army Depot as a supervisor.
He is survived by
his wife, Thursa Whipple Davis, and the following children: Ronald Davis
of Roxbury, PA, Guy
Davis of Waynesboro, PA, and Andrew Davis, at home; nine grandchildren;
two step-
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was the last of
his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and
four sisters.
Memorial services were held Sunday from Roxbury United Methodist Church,
with Rev. John
Fickett and Rev. Douglas Miller officiating. Interment will be at the convenience
of the
family. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions

to watch Phillies baseball. She was a member of McAlisterville United Methodist

at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 1997 at
Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he had been admitted Sunday.
He was born in
Juniata County July 7, 1911, the son of the late John Albert and Jennie
Warnets Frymoyer.
February 2, 1936 he married the former Lila Mae Reichenbach, who preceded
him in death
September 30, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Florence
Sheaffer
Frymoyer. He was educated in the Juniata County schools. He was principally
engaged in
farming, but had been employed by the former Pennsylvania Railroad, Northumberland
and Enola
yards, where he worked in track maintenance. He also worked for the Harrisburg
Steel Mill and
most recently was employed by Wood Mode Industries, Kreamer, where he was
a fireman and as a
part-time Wells Fargo security guard for Wood-Metal Inc., Kreamer. He was
a member of
Paradise United Methodist Church, Port Trevorton RR1, a life member of
Selinsgrove Lodge No.
1173, Loyal Order of Moose, a member of Reliance Hose Company Ambulance
League, Middleburg,
Dauntless Hook and Ladder Fire Co. and Ambulance League, Selinsgrove, the
National Travel
Club and the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed driving
places to view the
sights and visit friends. Surviving are three sons, Kirby U. Frymoyer and
his wife Martha
Ann of Beaumont, CA; George B. Frymoyer and his wife Judy of Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR1, and
Kenneth C. Frymoyer, at home; two daughters, Ardenna S. Kauffman and her

She was born August
12, 1906 in Mifflintown, a daughter of the late Guy H. and Orpha May [Gushard]
Auker. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Goshen, on February 10, 1992.
She is survived by
cousins. She attended Mifflintown Elementary School from 1912 to 1921 and
she was a 1925
graduate of Mifflintown High School. She graduated in 1928 from the Shippensburg
Normal
School with a teaching certificate. In 1928 her teaching career started
in a one-room school
house in Juniata County, upon the completion of her career in 1968 with
40 years of service,
she retired as principal of Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School. She
was a member of
Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, where she served as
elder, trustee and
deacon. She was a member of Mifflintown Rotary, Ladies Auxiliary of the
Mifflintown Hose
Company No. 1, Juniata County Retired Teachers Association and a 50-year
member of the Order
of the Eastern Star, Mifflin Chapter No. 260, Mifflintown. Funeral services
were held
Thursday, September 25 at Brown Funeral Home, Mifflintown, with Rev. William
C. Mielke
officiating. Burial was in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

he was employed by
Superior Ice Co., Lewistown, as a delivery person. Later, he was a long
distance truck driver
for Noerr Motor Freight, Lewistown. From 1946 to 1956, he owned and operated
Height's
Grocery, Lewistown. From 1956 to 1957, he was the owner and operator of
Honey Creek Lime Co.,
Reedsville. From 1957 to 1972, he was founder of James F. Havice Distributing,
Lewistown,
retiring in 1972. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown,
where he was a
member of the Wesley Men Bible Class and a former trustee of the church.
He was also a member
of Lewistown Lodge Free and Accepted Masons No. 203 and Lewistown Chapter
Royal Arch Masons
No. 186, and Lewistown Commandry No. 26 Knights Templar. He was a member
of Altoona
Consistory and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a life member of Brooklyn
Hose Co. Services
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral
Home, North Main

D. Banks and Laura [Lauver] Heckman. His wife, Helen S. [Duncan] Heckman,
whom he married
June 8, 1932, survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Michael [Ruth
Ann] Helwig,
Pittsburgh; one sister, Hazel Ferguson, Hummelstown; and one grandson.
He was preceded in
death by one brother, Banks L. Heckman, and one sister, Catherine Holman.
He worked for 32
years at Haws Refractories, Hawstone, and retired from Mexico Forge, Milroy.
He was a member
of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, the Order of United Commercial
Travelers of
America, Council No. 561, Lewistown, Brooklyn Fire Co. and AARP. Graveside
funeral services
were held Saturday at Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Oakland Mills. Brown

Her husband,
Clarence H. Hinebaugh, whom she married in 1933, died April 22, 1980. Surviving
are: a
son, Gerald L. Hinebaugh and his wife Doris, Thompsontown RR1; three nephews,
Glen
Hockenbrock, Liverpool, Robert Kline, Millerstown RR2 and Richard Hockenbrock,
Beaverton,
OR; a niece, Florene McDonald, Enola; three great-nephews; four greatnieces.
She was
preceded in death by a brother, Norman Hockenbroch, and a sister, Helen
Kline. She was
educated in the Northumberland schools, was a homemaker and assisted her
husband in
farming. She enjoyed canning and gardening. She was a long-time member
of St. James United
Methodist Church, Millerstown RR2, where she had formerly taught Sunday
school and served
as president of the Women's Missionary Society of the church. She was also
a member of
Thompsontown Ambulance League. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday
at the George
P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., Mount Pleasant Mills, with Rev. C. Richard
Beach officiating.
Interment will be in St. James United Methodist Cemetery, Millerstown RR2.

Allene H. Wise. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the
U.S. Army. He had
worked as a carpenter, a mason and had been the maintenance supervisor
at Locust Grove
Retirement Village, from where he retired in 1983. He was a member of Messiah
Lutheran
Church, Mifflintown, where he was a past council member and a past choir
member. He was also
a member of Milford Grange, was a Juniata County School Director from 1950
to 1962, serving
as president of the board in 1962 and was director of the former Mifflin
Firemen's Band.
Services were held Monday at Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown, with Rev.
Claude R. Baublitz;
officiating. Interment was in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Licking
Creek Valley. Memorial

Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67, Mifflin, where he had resided since
December 27,
1996. He was born June 9, 1926 at McAlisterville RR2, the son of the late
Edgar Wilson and
Elizabeth [Long] Jamison. June 22, 1944, he was married to the former Susie
Edna Benner, who
preceded him in death June 10, 1996. Jamison was educated in the Juniata
County rural
schools. He was inducted into the U.S. Army and served during World War
II. He retired from
Triangle Pacific Cabinet Corporation, Thompsontown RR1, where be was employed
as a night
watchman. Prior to his employment there, he was employed at the former
Polaron Homes of
Middleburg, where he worked as a laborer and by Pennsylvania Department
of Transportation,
Mifflintown, as a truck driver. A member of Turkey Valley United Methodist
Church,
Millerstown RR2 and the Thompsontown Ambulance League and Fire Company,
he had enjoyed
hunting and fishing. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie S. Burdge [and
her husband, Larry]
of East Waterford RR1 and Connie L. Liddington of Thompsontown RR1; nine
grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren. Mr. Jamison was the last of his immediate family.
He was preceded
in death by two sons, Larry E. Jamison on May 11, 1997 and Dale R. Jamison
on September 11,
1988; one daughter, Gloria J. Goodling on December 26, 1994; one granddaughter,
Christine A.
Liddington; three brothers, Carl, Lloyd and Earl Jamison; and four sisters,
Freda Reynolds,
Erma Bookwalter, Mildred Dunn and Laura Ruth Stewart. The funeral service
was conducted
Friday, October 10 at Turkey Vailey United Methodist Church, Millerstown
RR2, with his
pastor, Rev. Salvatore E. Buonocore, officiating. Interment followed in
Bethlehem Cemetery,

JARDEN, DAVID ROCKEFELLER - David Rockefeller Jarden, lecturer and filmmaker,
died in Huntingdon Valley September 30,
1997, He was 90. He was the beloved husband of Josephine Moyer Jarden,
whom he married in
1941. Born in Jenkintown, PA. he was a son of the late Charles and Lillian
Rockefeller
Jarden. An avid outdoorsman, he was a full-time lecturer and fulfilled
his adventurous
yearning by filming scenes in Canada, the U.S. Rockies, Alaska, Maine and
New Zealand. He
attended Germantown, Academy, and later the University of Pennsylvania's
Wharton School.
His early career was as a salesman for McCloskey Vanish Co., but he left
to serve in the
United States Coast Guard as seaman first class, receiving an honorable
discharge in
September 1945. He and his wife started vacationing in Canada, where he
had spent summers
as a boy, and he filmed these and other canoe and fishing trips and showed
the movies he
made back home. At the urging of church groups, schools and friends, he
turned a hobby
into a profession and eventually filmed over 20 expeditions and travelled
thousands of
miles by canoe, often in the company of only Indians, through the wilderness
country of
Northern Ontario, Quebec and the Northwest Territories. In 1963 he took
an 850-mile canoe
trip to Hudson Bay. He lectured frequently in Pennsylvania and parts of
New England, at
schools, resorts, clubs and museums. He remained an expert canoeist almost
until his 90th
birthday. He was a member and past president of the Horseshoe Trail Club.
He hiked Creek
Road in Huntingdon Valley as a Boy Scout in the 1910s and through the 1990s
as a member
of the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust. Other affiliations included
Rotary,
Adventurers and Explorers Clubs, of New York. In addition to his wife,
he is survived by
three sons, David R. Jarden Jr., John Moyer Jarden and Charles P. Jarden
II, as well as
by two grandsons, Judd and Todd Jarden. A memorial service was held October
5 at Calvary
Presbyterian Church, Wincote, where he was a member. Contributions would
be appreciated

Her last employment was in the cafeteria of Juniata Joint High School,
Mifflintown. She was a
member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown. The funeral was held Monday
at Messiah
Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, with Rev. Anna Ritter officiating. Interment
followed in
Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Memorial contributions

MARTIN, EDNA MAE ------ Edna M. Martin, 80, of Liverpool RR1, died at
7:58 p.m., Monday, September 22, 1997 at
Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where she had been hospitalized
since September
12. Mrs. Martin had been in failing health for the past year. Born April
8, 1917 in Chapman
Township, Snyder County, she was the daughter of the late Peter A. and
Lilly (Naugle]
Dressler. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Robert Martin,
on August 4, 1982.
Mrs. Martin was educated in the rural schools of Snyder County. She retired
in the mid-1970s
after 18 years as an attendant at the Selinsgrove Center, Selinsgrove.
She had done seasonal
work for Furman's Cannery, Northumberland, prior to working at the Selinsgrove
Center. During
her early marriage years, Mrs. Martin worked along with her husband as
a laborer for the
former Pennsylvania Railroad at Enola. She was protestant by faith and
a homemaker and
mother, who enjoyed going on frequent bus excursions to Atlantic City,
NJ. She also enjoyed
making handmade braided rugs and did some quilting. Surviving are two sons,
Charles E. Martin
[and his wife, Elsie] of Liverpool RR1 whom Mrs. Martin made her home with
and Harvey L.
Martin [and his wife, Betty] of Middleburg; three daughters, Nancy I. Barge,
Mifflinburg RR,
Shirley I. Kratzer, Liverpool and Betty B. Harp, Milton. Also surviving
are three sisters,
Grace Arnold, Selinsgrove RR3, Florence "Becky" Shaffer, Mt. Pleasant Mills
RR1 and Anna
Catherine "Cass" Peterson, Middleburg; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs.
Martin was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Dressler and Harry
Dressler; three half-
brothers, Harvey Reich, Allen Wilt and William Roush; and two half-sisters,
Ida Naugle and
Mary Bordner. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, September 25 from
the George P.
Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with Pastor Roger L. Womer officiating.

followed in Aline Cemetery, RR2, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2.

17, 1996 at 11:36 p.m. at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, where
she had been
hospitalized for three days. She had been ill since September 1, 1996.
Born at Perkasie,
Bucks County, March 27, 1938, she was the daughter of Mrs. Cleta Heavner
Stauffer of
Selinsgrove RR1 and the late Mr. J. Walter Stauffer. September 24, 1971,
she was married to
Mark R. Moyer, who survives. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary
this year.
Mrs. Moyer graduated in 1955 from Selinsgrove High School. She began, after
high school
graduation, employment for Bell Telephone Company, first in Harrisburg
and later in Sunbury,
working for 17 years as a service dispatcher. From 1976 until January 1,
1989 she assisted
her husband in the operation and management of the Oriental Hotel, Mt.
Pleasant Mills RR1. At
the time of her death, she was vice president of Oriental Hauling, Inc.,
Liverpool RR1, also
a family business. She was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove,
was a charter and
life member of the Marine Corps League Ladies' Auxiliary of the Susquehanna
Valley and was a
member of Liverpool Ambulance League. She relaxed and spent quality time
with her
grandchildren and was an avid reader, especially of nonfiction. In addition
to her mother and
her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Dawn M. Moyer, Northumberland,
and Michele A.
Moyer, at home; three brothers, John Stauffer of Maryland, Samuel Stauffer
of Selinsgrove RR3
and Tim Stauffer of New Jersey; two sisters, Rachel Betzer, Selinsgrove
RR5, and Jan Hilbish,
Enola; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary
K. Stauffer, in

died at 11:58 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 1997
in the emergency room of Sunbury Community Hospital. His death was sudden
and unexpected. He
was born November 21, 1924 in Richfield, a son of the late John O. and
Edna [Maneval] Pyle.
He was married March 9, 1946 to the former Nadene M. Landis, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran, serving during World War II, attaining the rank of corporal. He
served in the
China-Burma India Campaign with the Mars Task Force. He was awarded the
Four Bronze Star and
the China Victory Medal. He was a gifted stone mason by trade for many
years. His business
was based in the Mt. Pleasant Mills area, but he served areas throughout
the state and even
Maryland. He was also employed as a welder by the American Car and Foundry,
Milton, from 1955
to 1972 and the Pennsylvania Railroad, Harrisburg, prior to that. He ran
Country Collectables
Antique Emporium, Mt. Pleasant Mills, as a hobby, and was an American memorabilia
enthusiast.
He was a member of the Military Vehicle Club of Williamsport, Snyder County
Historical
Society, Shade Mountain Antique Machinery Association of Beaver Springs,
Williams Grove
Steam Engine Association of Mechanicsburg, Nittany Antique Machinery Association
of Centre
Hall and the National Rifle Association. He served as state chaplain for
the China-Burma
India Veterans Association and was a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen's
Fellowship
International. He played the accordion at reunions, festivals and family
social gatherings at
his cabin in Woodward, PA and at various church conventions. Surviving,
in addition to his
wife, are four sons, Gary P. and wife Glenda of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR1,
Kenneth L. and wife
Kathy of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR1, Rev. Robert L. and wife Rita of Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR1 and

at the Old Dutch
Cellar, Lewistown. He was later a truck driver for Graybill Movers, New
Jersey, and was last
employed, by Daubert Milk Haulers, retiring in 1996. He was a member of
Pine Glen Church of
the Brethren. Graveside services were held Thursday at Lind Memorial Cemetery,
Lewistown,

SHADEL, JR., JOHN C. -- John C. Shadel. Jr., 69, of Richfield RR1, died
at 5:12 a.m. Sunday, November 9, 1997, at his
home following a lengthy illness. Born September 18, 1928 in Richfield,
he was a son of the
late John C. Sr. and Iva M. [Bolig] Shadel. His wife, Donna Lou [Hornberger]
Shadel, whom he
married June 4, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: children, Dana Shadel,
Carlisle, Jeannie
Stroup, Richfield, Jennifer Smith, Elizabethtown; a brother, Elwood Shadel,
Richfield RR1; a
grandson, Joshua Stroup. He was employed by his father at Shadel's Poultry
Farm from 1946
until joining the U.S. Army in 1952. He was also employed as an aircraft
systems electrician
at Olmstead Air, Force Base, Middletown and was later an equipment specialist
supervisor at
the Navy Ships Parts Constructed Control Center, Mechanicsburg, until his,
retirement in
1990. He attended the Watts Schoolhouse, Richfield and was a 1946 graduate
of Fayette High
School, McAlisterville. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery Branch from
1952-1954 and was
awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of St. John
Lutheran Church,
Richfield where he served on the church council and was a member of the
Richfield Lions Club.
He enjoyed piloting his own plane and poultry farming on a part-time basis.
S ervices will be
held at 10:30 Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Richfield, with Rev.
Arnold Bensen
officiating. Interment will be in Richfield Union Cemetery. There will
be no viewing.

a son of the late Wilbur C. and Frances [Miller] Taylor. His wife, V. Jean
[Thompson] Taylor,

sisters, Marian T.

graduate of Port Royal High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World
War II, having served
in Europe with the 106th Infantry Division and was taken prisoner by the
Germans in the
"Battle of the Bulge." He was a member of Port Royal Lutheran Church, American
Legion Post
No. 298, Mifflintown, and Port Royal Lions Club. Services were held Friday
at Port Royal
Lutheran Church, with Rev. Claude Baublitz officiating. Interment was in
Old Church Hill

Township. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of fransportation,
Selinsgrove,
retiring in 1970. He was a member of Richfield Fire and Ambulance Company
and attended Mt.
Zion United Methodist Church, Millerstown RR2. In addition to his wife,
he is survived by
three daughters, Irene Sheaffer and Grace N. Smith, both of Richfield,
and Roseanna Bordner,
Mechanicsburg; two sons, Calvin of Richfield and Clyde of Richfield RR1;
one brother, Simon
L. Troutman, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR1; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Jacob and George, and five
sisters, Ellen Swope,
Naomi Maneval, Orpha Kline, Grace Troutman and Laura Edna Troutman. The
funeral service was
conducted Saturday from the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant
Mills, by Rev. Dr.
Almon D. Baird. Burial followed at Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery,

sister, Kathryn McCoy, Lake Elsinore, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
She last worked as
a private duty nurse's aide and prior to that had been employed in various
nursing homes in
Cumberland and Perry counties. She was a member of Incarnation United Church
of Christ,
Newport. Memorial services were held Sunday in the community room of Honaman
House,
Thompsontown, with Rev. Canon William T. Warne officiating Mrs. Wagner's
body was donated to
the Humanity Gift Registry, Philadelphia. Brown Funeral Home, Mifflintown,

WALTON, SR., JOHN E. -- John E. Walton Sr., 69, of Port Royal RR2, died
at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 1997, at
his home. Born December 9, 1927 in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County,
he was a son of the
late Ray and Jane [Page] Walton. His wife, Mary C. [Dressler] Walton, whom
he married June
26, 1948, survives. Also surviving are: children, Susian F. Reuther, Mayfield,
John E. Walton
Jr., Richmond, ME, Joseph S. Walton, Mifflintown RR1; sisters, Mary Palm,
Port Royal,
Florence Bryner, Carlisle; seven grandchildren He was preceded in death
by two brothers,
William Walton and Jesse Walton. He was a veteran, having served in the
U.S. Air Force and
was a life member of Mifflin Hose Co. He was a retired truck driver, having
been employed by
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Mifflintown office. Memorial
services and
gathering will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mr. Walton's home, Port
Royal RR2, with Rev.
Dennis Thompson officiating. There will be no viewing. Guss Funeral Home,
20 S. Third Street,
Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

Tuesday, October 14, 1997 at Lewistown Hospital. Born September 28, 1923
in Tuscarora,
Turbett Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Homer
S. and Mary Jane
[Sheaffer] Rice. Her husband, John A. "Jack" Welshonse Sr., whom she married
January
13, 1946, survives. Also surviving are: three sons, John A. Welshonse Jr.,
Mifflintown
RR5, F. Scott Welshonse, Mifflintown RR3, and Timothy J. Welshonse, Port
Royal; two
brothers, Harold H. Rice and H. Shelley Rice, both of Port Royal RR3; two
sisters, Mrs.
Herbert [Dorothy] Beasom, Port Royal RR3, and Mrs. Samuel [Mary Jane] Varner,
McAlisterville; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an
infant brother,
James Rice, and one sister, Jennie Haas. She was a 1942 graduate of Port
Royal High
School. She was employed as a licensed practical nurse, working at Harrisburg
State
Hospital in the 1940s. She was a member of Tuscarora Church of the Brethren,
Port Royal
RR3. Services were held Friday at Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown, with
Rev. Charles
Sheaffer officiating. Interment was in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

WILLOW, MILDRED ELLEN - Mrs. Mildred Ellen Willow, 72, of Liverpool
RR1, Liverpool Township, died at 2:39 a.m.,
Saturday, October 19, 1996 at Penn Lutheran Village Nursing Home, Selinsgrove,
where she had
been admitted September 27, following a hospitalization at Sunbury Community
Hospital for a
little over two weeks. Born December 5, 1923, at Juniata County, she was
the daughter of the
late Henry Jacob and Martha Woods Elsasser. May 23, 1945, she married Carl
Melvin Willow, who
preceded her in death August 11, 1985. Mrs. Willow was educated in the
Juniata County
schools. She was a homemaker and loving mother who enjoyed flower gardening
and canning
fruits and vegetables. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian
Union, Mt.
Pleasant Mills RR1. She is survived by one son, Donald H. Willow, Thompsontown
RR1; four
daughters, Gloria L. Bowersox, Millerstown RR3, Carol L. Swartz, Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR2,
Donna L. Heimbach, Lewistown RR6, and Glenda A. Swartz, Liverpool RR2;
one sister, Geraldine
Cramer, Thompsontown RR1; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by three brothers and two sisters, all at birth. The funeral service
was conducted
Tuesday from the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with her pastor,
Rev. Daryl M.
Kuhns, officiating. Interment was made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Liverpool
RR2.

RR1 [Spruce Hill], died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday,
October 9, 1997, at her home. Born March 30, 1908 in Turbett Township,
Juniata County, she
was a daughter of the late Lawrence M. and Agatha C. [Byers] Towsey. Her
husband, Joseph
A. Wisehaupt, died April 4, 1967. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Harry [Ruth]
Roe, HC 67,
Mifflin, Mrs. Mary Nipple, Port Royal, Mrs. Reynolds [Helen] Shearer, Port
Royal RR1, J.
Larry Wisehaupt, at home; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;
three great-great-
grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded
in death by
a son, David E. Wisehaupt on July 20, 1972, five brothers and three sisters.
She was a
member of Port Royal Lutheran Church. Services were held Monday at Rex
Funeral Home, Port
Royal, with Rev. Kathleen M. Kinney officiating. Interment was in Old Church
Hill
Cemetery, Port Royal.

WOLESLAGLE, RUTH I. --- Ruth I. Woleslagle, 69, of Thompsontown, died
at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at
Lewistown Hospital. She was born November 9, 1921 at Richfield, the daughter
of the late
Wayne B. and Cora A. [Erringer] Snyder. She is survived, by her husband,
Howard H. Woleslagle
Jr., whom she married March 13, 1957. Also surviving are a son, Mark S.
Woleslagle of
Thompsontown; a grandson, Douglas; and a granddaughter, Aimee. She was
predeceased by her
brother, Robert Snyder. She was a member of Thompsontown United Methodist
Church. She
graduated from Thompsontown High School in 1945 and from Central Penn Business
School,
Harrisburg, in 1947. She had been employed in the office of the Pennsylvania
Department of
Transportation at Thompsontown in 1945, and from 1946 to 1962 at the Van
Dyke Brick Works.
She assisted her husband in the operation of Millerstown Hardware, Which
they owned from 1957
to 1984. She was billing clerk for the Thompsontown Water Authority from
1987 to 1990. The
funeral was conducted Friday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, McAlisterville,
with
Rev. George Reynolds officiating. Interment followed in the Emmanuel Lutheran
Church
Cemetery, Thompsontown. Memorial donations may be made to Thompsontown
United Methodist
Church, Thompsontown, PA 17094.

in 1974. He was a
member of Hope Mennonite Fellowship, Port Royal. Services were held Monday
at Valley View
Amish Mennonite Church, Belleville, with ministers Eli King, Earl Peachey
and Leon Homing
officiating. Interment was in Locust Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorial
